If you are using a computer to do your mixing for you, thay you really do have more time to interact with a crowd...but it seems as if more and more people simply don't interact with their crowd. Which is a shame.
That's the one thing I hate about using Traktor. I sometimes get sucked into my laptop screen when I use it. It gives you so much information to help you create a precise mix that it can become extremely tempting to keep 'visually' checking to see where you are at. In fact, if the laptop is square in front of you it's pretty hard to not get sucked into it imo. With that being said, if you know what you're doing it's probably possible to put together a decent sounding set by just looking at your screen without listening to the music playing.

The point is that with Traktor/Scratch it's important to not become dependent on the screen and instead use it as a tool, in addition to your ears, to make you a better DJ.

...and that's what is great about CDJs, there isn't much to look so your attention is more likely to stay where it should be.

Yeah that's what I dig about cd's too. You know you have at least 3 or so minutes in between songs to interact with the crowd. I know that when I use software, i too tend to keep checking it. Kinda hard NOT to pay attention to what is the brightest thing in the club.
