so in my travels today i came across a member of ms on a local denver board, while talking about how sweet his liveset board was, and running a liveset board myself, i thought i would re-visit(been there plenty of times but it always seemed to have the same sets every other board does, so i stopped going).

now dont get me wrong, i am all for sharing links between boards, i find great links here on ms that i sometimes share with my members, however with that said, i also take the time to bring mixes from my board over here to ms as a sort of thank you.

what i found was a bunch of punks ripping links from other boards, claiming it was there work and then running ads on their board to generate money off people on ms/livesets/etc's hard work and time put in ripping and recording shows.

i thought i might be mistaking and in fact maybe some members of the board was ripping and recording, so i made a thread asking for some work of theirs to see if i was right, and i got mocked at and pretty much told they are stealing links and that no one gives a shit.

i thought i would give a heads up to the ms people that a member(or members) here might be taking links, posting them on their board(while not giving credit to rippers/recorders or board found on) so they can make money off banner ads.

i myself will not allow them to take links off my board to make money off, dont know if you guys care or what, but i thought it was uber shady and vowed that every liveset board i was on would be told in case they wanted to check out the site to make sure they were not getting shafted as well.

If we would try to educate each user who copies and pastes content offered here we would need a 36 hour day. There are gazillions of blogs and forums with copycats. Our philosophy to always ask people to give credits when its due is just not the philosophy of other websites. I saw so many blogs already where people copied the Kiss100 mixes that took Gatz months to upload in a few minutes without giving any credits and that's the Interweb of the 21st century sadly.

I have also seen mcast sets posted on websites, is that frowned upon or do you want them to be spread about?

typically we prefer that the links take you to the mcast site and are not direct download links for the set, but having said that, it is too hard to really police

there's another dude (user aimnat - http://aimnat.blogspot.com/2008/08/j...n-kiss100.html) who pretty much replicates anything in the P&R forum with ads... oh well.

I have also seen mcast sets posted on websites, is that frowned upon or do you want them to be spread about?

Music should be heard so we have nothing against it but credits would be nice and what's not cool is if people use direct links pointing to the MCast mixes leeching our bandwidth while MCast has nothing from it (no visits, no votes, no comments, no podcast subscriptions, nothing).

i am 100% for sharing music and whatnot, but like everyone said, either give credit or props, or rip a set yourself and share with the board you been grabing links off.

I've had a few of my AGH ripped tapes show up on other forums as well with no credit. But luckily some kind members of this board alerted me to it and I made a few comments. That's one of the reasons why stopped posting the rips. I'm still ripping them, just not posting them.
The same with the Kimball tapes...but there was one site that I was alerted to that actually gave me credit.

hopefully it was mine, sometimes i post to quick and forget credit, but i always try to go back and let peeps know where i got them from, i also take the time to put my rips on here for peeps to enjoy as i have enjoyed their rips.

How hard is it to type "courtesy of Mercuryserver". ??? Do you really believe that people think the artist gave just you the links I see posts on a local site that I know are from MS all the time. It's a bit better lately but it used to really piss me off.

Which site were you referring to? I don't want to list those sites, but if you feel comfortable in posting the site by all means i'd like to know. I honestly got tired of going around and looking for the links, it just became too much time.
