      Soundforge, CoolEdit, numerous other ones as well...but none of these are free, pay up cheapskate!

          I am really just looking for something that will record what the computer hears. I had creative recorder before..but when I got windows XP, it messed it up

                    i like sound forge. it asks for a password after you encode 29 mp3's.
                    but if you just un-install it and install it again, it works another 29 times.

                    only problem is sound forge doesnt record from playing audio.
                    you have to dump the whole file in and extract what you want.
                    but you can add fades and EQ, etc etc..

                        if i want to split a set, i use hjsplit, if i want to get a certain song from a mix, i use nero burner,

                            i use nero 6 with cue sheets if the set is 80 mins or less...

                            if it's bigger, i use the cuesheet as a guide and mark the tracks on nero using the limits option in track properties window.

                              If you need a FREE program that records and cuts - here it is. The only problem with it is that you need wave files - but there are numerous free converters.
