I took off the bottom and the cables are still attached.

it's the connection with the needle. it's nothing to do with the wires outside (at least, not probably). i've had this happene before. If you take off the cartridge a lot, it wears down the connectors a bit. I'd suggest starting with the cartridge first as most nothing else is every touched. (you might simply just lick the back end of the cartrdige and plug it back in...worked for me at least)you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky

i've seen and heard this happen to so many people. than instead of fixing it like a person with a brain would, they just switch the mixer into Mono mode and do the rest of the set that way. I hate that because it kills a bunch of your headroom and high end of the sound.Comment

Spot on m8.. i have had this before and it very rarely has to do with the rca cables. it is the cartridge. What i do is take it off and give it a good clean. i also just tap (very gentle) the wires under the cartridge.. hope that helps

Thanks for the tips. It was the cartridge connection. It still seems kinda spotty though, as if it's just not getting a good connection in there. Any tips for cleaning contact points in general ? I tried just wiping them off both on the cartridge and inside the arm, and it didn't really do much, but as I twisted the cartridge back and forth gently I could hear static coming through the left channel. I couldn't get anything to come of it until I gave it a lick and popped it back in

There is electronic component contact cleaner available. It dissolves any corrosion or unseen buildup, i am not sure the name of it off of the top of my head. ( just be careful with it around the plastic portion of the cartridge) You may also take a steel wire brush to the contacts also, just be gentle." Focus on the subtleties and the world becomes grander"

i used to just put my tongue on the connections of the needle and then stick it back in the table and it would work again.Comment

I carry around a #2 pencil when I DJ just for that reason. You put the eraser end in where the cartrige go's, and twist it around in there. Then put in the Cartrige, and the connection is usually fine. Cheap, fast, safe, and easyMind and Body crave light, because we live in Darkness.
