The Diogenes Club – That’s A Morey EP [Urban//Torque Recordings]
1. ‘CDPT’
2. ‘Some Other Time’
3. ‘That’s A Moray’
The Diogenes Club are the trump in the hand of Urban Torque – every now and again a release comes out from the Club that you just wouldn’t expect. The tracks are always surprising, unpredictable and ingenious, irreverently but wonderfully fusing disparate genres. Reassuringly, the three cuts on the ‘That’s A Moray EP’ are no different in attitude. Each track bears a touch of the ‘80s fused with contemporary electronic production, a pop sensibility and a tongue tucked slightly in cheek. The Diogenes Club put the fun back into the party. To the electronic music scene they’re a breath of fresh air and a cheeky knee in the balls.
1. ‘CDPT’ – What the future sounded like in the ‘80s, ‘CDPT’ with its distorted pads is unearthly left-field mayhem. Warm, quirky, fluctuating, titillating, fun house music.
2. ‘Some Other Time’ – Emotive ‘80s inspired electro-pop shot through with pathos. Dour vocals, dominant bass guitar hooks and poignant synths evoke the likes of New Order and Depeche Mode.
3. ‘That’s A Moray’ – A catchy groove, quirky synths and whispering vocals playfully conspire over this deep house track. Further proof of the genius of the Diogenes Club.
The Diogenes Club conspire to bring electronic music with a playful twist and a little ‘je nais se qua’. Masterminded by the talented Matthew Williams, the Club first arrived on the scene with 2002’s celebrated ‘Music For The Soul EP’ on Urban Torque. Since then a string of cheeky and inspired bootlegs by the Club, including a sublime reworking of Depeche Mode’s ‘Enjoy The Silence’, have found there way onto BBC Radio 1. ‘That’s A Moray EP’ follows-up last year’s ‘Jaunt’ also on Urban Torque.
