ah u see i didnt know that the northern point of the earths axis was in rotation.

i thought that the earth was on a fixed diagonal central axis.

        it all becomes clear now!

yes, and it has to do with the precision of the equinoxes

Looking for country statistics? NationMaster gives access to market sizing and trends across 300 industry verticals and a global coverage.

another very long cycle in the earth's life is the axial tilt, at 45,000 years.

this is all related to Milankovitch cycles, which affect global temperature and ice age trends

(the numbers are slightly different between the two, but you get the idea).

a great book to read that references Milankovitch and how long it actually took for people to accept his theory is "A short history of nearly everything" by Bill Bryson. read it...one of the best science books ever written.

phew, there is my nerd-fix for the day.

but in all reality, I can't imagine how it could create a black hole of any significant tragedy. Yes quantum/theoretical physics could drum up some crazy calculations that could show the birth of a small black hole but you have to realize the amount of particles they will collide that could collapse in on itself creating blackholes smaller than caviar eggs. Nothing the size that's resulting from a dying star. Though if they are able to prove the higgs boson particle (or discover the reason at what stage does sufficient amount of matter cause its relative binding to produce mass), would probably be the most incredible discovery of our times (other than finding intelligent life on other planets).

Who knows, them aliens who are billions of light years ahead of our technology might detect the birth of these strange particles thanks to the collision and they might just stop by our way to see wtf is going on in with the Frenchies

But as far as the big bang goes, I read another theory that explains that there's not just one universe but we live in an existence of multiverses and the collision of gigantic multiverses gives birth to infant universes through.... a big bang

discovering the higgs boson would be amazing. however can you imagine what would happen if they dont discover it, or better yet if they discover it doesnt exist? the ramifications would be insane...

i'm also looking forward to them discovering other dimensions. they already believe (know) they exist and it looks like proving them shouldnt be too far in the distant future...

btw, history channel had a 1hr documentary on it last night... pretty kewl

                          AWESOME VIDEO!!!!!!!!

they have said things like when they first collided atoms then they found all kinds of stuff inside them. I think this could probably do that to an immensely greater state. I doubt it'll destroy itself like in some james Bond film.

It's amazing what the word "doomsday" paired with "black hole" can do to people. Christ.

We do not have the ability to create enough energy to destroy this planet in a single event. We burn trash to power things. We're essentially cavemen. Get over it.

Well they did build the 8 billion dollar facility to do more than just find a single particle. There is a lot to learn here. There are probably going to be a lot more questions than answers, so don't hold your breath just yet.
