Laptop screens for DJing (& just in general): glossy or matte?

ok...the age-old debate... I'm looking to finally buy a Macbook Pro for use with Traktor Stratch. The only thing I'm not decided on is the screen. I've gone to the store and looked at both... Glossy is brighter and sharper looking, probably best under optimal lighting conditions (i.e., none). Matte is obviously less reflective and I suspect it would be better for overall functionality.

Anyone have experience with these in DJ settings? Outdoors? Just everyday settings?

I know most clubs are dark and so it's probably not that much of an issue either way...but still... And while I would expect that the matte is better in outdoors/high light conditions, I've actually been hearing a lot that it gets really washed out and glossy is actually better...unfortunately they won't let me take the laptops out of the store to demo.

Thoughs? Leaning towards the matte right now...

Glossy catches a lot of background reflection, if you see a glossy screen in store you'll know what I mean. I imagine if you're using a glossy screen to DJ in a club, all the background lights will be a distraction.

I use a matte because I knew the reflected lights will get on my nerves. Glossy looks great for movies but doesn't feel practical to me.

I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.

Get a glossy screen and use a privacy filter when you don't want that shine.

I have experience with both and it's not even debatable: matte all the way. Don't even think about getting a glossy screen.

In the club it's not so much a problem, because the dancefloor lights don't usually go into the booth.

But...when you play an outdoor party in the day time, glossy screens suck so much ass.

i got a glossy screen, and i'm just using it for library and class, and it bugs the shit out of me with the glare and mirror-effect. got with matte, always.

(Btw...i believe there is some film you can purchase that you stick to the screen that can change it back and forth)

it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles

            yep, thought about that...

...but I went with the matte. the glossy is brighter and the best option for a movie in a dark room, no doubt. But I figured that the matte would really be better for my needs... I can always watch the pr0n on my glossy screen HP.

            thanks for the input, guys.

100% agree. Sunlight is the worst on glossy screens..I end up having to tilt the screen way down just to even see it.
