1st time @ Beta. funktion one ftw. hopefully now he won't do the "denver dumbdown" and give that place a proper rinse! i pity the fools who have to work with me tomorrow
see what type of review i can piece together in 24 hours...
...I love you when you're not masterminding my downfall
Getting ready to head out now, too bad I don't have a good small camera I can take with or I'd be bringing back shots. Looking forward to a proper thrashing tonight.
Digweed totally destroyed it tonight! It was fantastic to hear him on totally form tonight. Left us wanting more by finishing up with the new Chemical Brothers Hey Boy Hey Girl Soulwax remix. Incredibly friggin' dope.
ok pics to come, beta's will be better so I'll post some of them.
to start a little background on denver's club scene. clubs here close at 2am (which means lights on around 1:45) when major djs roll through town at the bigger clubnights, they tend to only go on @ midnight or a little earlier and play until close. they tend to cater to the mainstream crowds and play usual faves (and who can blame them as most being from outside the US probably think we still ride horses to work). digweed has never "gone down the rabbit hole" so to speak like in LA and other places, even though he's admitted to loving denver's crowds. so knowing all this, i figured he might get up for a new club and it'll be fun.
well a close friend had spoken to john earlier in the week and given him the skinny on denver at the moment. he encouraged john to go on earlier as the club is "better" than anything he's played in denver to date. john said he was considering...
fast forward to last night. i get a call at 7:30 saying that john has agreed to go on an hour early giving us a 3-hr present. sick. move all pre-plans up an hour
the opening dj who is known for being very hit or miss on opening duties actually did a fabulous job of opening. playing i'd say around 122-4 and keeping it real heavy and slightly darker. perfect.
john came on around 11 and laid it down for the rest of the night. he definitely played through a bunch of different genres and by the last half hour was really banging it out. had a blast & not to worse for wear...
best news of the evening. found out I may have a free plane ticket to london the weekend of bedrock. fucking snap.

just got home from my night out at the show. Beta is a cool new club, i dug the vibe. I was off my rocker last night on some party favors that havent been introduced to my self in a very long time, but definitely added to the perma-grin on my face that john started and then took off with. Always love the tracks he lays down, i dont know why last night was a bit different - i read another review describing this chunky "techno" he's been throwing down recently and last night i couldnt quite put my finger on what it was sounding like, but definitely way way different than the last time i saw him (w/ sasha at bonnaroo 2007)...either way, like i said, it was mean, dirty, and had my woman's ass shaking all night so i cant complain. a great night out had by all.
the surreal thing is - i'm a HUGE chemical brothers fan....and my first time seeing them live was in Washington DC and DIgweed & sasha & jimmy van M played the night before they did at the same club...and on that first delta heavy i know they actually opened for the Bros. at some shows....so those 2 nights were a dream come true for me.....but i cant tell you how many times i've seen Diggers, or Sasha doing a set on their own or together where they've thrown in a remix of a chemical brothers song into their set.....it always seems to happen when i get a chance to see them.....so i told my girl about this phenomenon last night before the show...and when i heard the first notes of that Hey Boy, Hey Girl remix as his last tracks... it's just some crazy coincidence with me for some reason.....awesome though!
