    Re: Bush's $700,000,000,000 Bailout!!!

Lou Dobbs has absolutely NO credibility commenting on this as if he were an expert, he's a FUCKING ANCHORMAN!

I'd much rather hear the dissenting opinions of the economists and CEO's which he has spoken with.

Report the NEWS like you get paid to do, don't SENSATIONALIZE it. It's garbage like this that continues to stir the panic and misinform.

I stopped there, too. How on earth did this guy ever become a respected voice on anything? Bag of hot air, if you asked me. His entire career has been in the media, just pontificating on things. Sorry pal, not gonna respect your opinion just because you're on the teevee.

Campbell Soup Co. was the only stock in the S&P 500 that escaped yesterday's historic sell-off. That’s right: 499 fell, and just one rose.

what's interesting is that, as far as dobbs goes, he's at least a little bit more informed than most of america is, you know...the one's who don't want this passed. if dobbs is a dumbshit, what then of the rest of america?

if someone competent and studied could explain how quickly this correction would last...i'd probably not support any form of bailout.

The major players got together yesterday and caused a financial meltdown to scare the shit out of everybody to further push the bailout.

Remember we must say no to this bailout or we will be much more trouble then we are now.

                          Re: Bush's $700,000,000,000 Bailout!!!

When they push the bailout on us again, they should make a major modification to it: they should give us equity in the firms that we bail out, and it should be proportional to just how crappy the firm is and how favorable the nominal bailout amount is to them. In other words, you take our cash and give us crap, and we will take your firm. The ownership stake at least poses a real upside to the broader public over the longer term and will help defray the costs. Furthermore, it has a punitive aspect to it that punishes those who are in the worst shape - and discourages them from getting a free ride and avoid folding, like they should.

My point is: it should be a targetted and somewhat punitive process sufficient only to stave off collapse, not a blank check to give everyone a free ride.

^^^ then the lobbyists on the inside will own it. It will still be corrupt.

                            For the Bailout

George Bush - Loser that nothing he has done has worked
McCain - Loser I don't think I need to say more
Paulson- used to be CEO of Goldman Sachs
Bernanke - said a year ago that the housing sector was fine

And we are supposed to believe these idiots guys?? Come on don't give in to the fire and brimstone speech that we all heard after 9/11. If we don't act now then the house of cards will collapse. Please. We should be saving our bullets for later on when it gets really bad. We have to take some lumps and here they are before us.

                            Against the Bailout

Joseph Stiglitz - Nobel Prize winning economist
                            Jim Rogers - Legendary Investor
Ron Paul - Need I say more

I think it is obvious whos side we should be on. Corporate cronies or good honest people. For all you out there saying that "whoever is against the bailout doesn't know what they are talking about" here is a great article from Joseph Stiglitz (Nobel Prize Winner Economics, and John Bates Clark Medal) who is thinking the same way I am apparently.

Joseph Stiglitz: The rejected rescue plan will almost certainly be put to another vote. They may rescue Wall Street, but what about the economy?

It will be funny to here what everyone has to say about this now with such credibility backing me it will be very difficult if not imposiible to counter.

Here is a great interview with Jim Rogers as well.

The $700 billion bailout package that Congress is scrambling to pass will only prolong economic woes, legendary investor Jim Rogers, CEO of Rogers Holdings, told CNBC on Wednesday.

highly highly doubt that will happen... just looks like they added more explanatory things that have nothing to do with the mortgage problem...

"The sweeteners include tax cuts, Alternative Minimum Tax relief and raising the FDIC insurance cap to $250,000."

Just to clarify - I don't have a problem with the way Stiglitz and most other real economists argue against the bailout. There are valid ways and also invalid ways to argue against (or for) the bailout. I've really only really had a problem with how you argue for it.

Also, it have to say that it strikes me as short-sighted of you to pick just one individual on your side and say "Look, (fill in the blank) is against the bailout; therefore, my opinion is now difficult if not impossible to counter." This is really not valid supporting evidence your own opinion on this matter. The fact is that there are many bright, famous, and expertly trained people on both sides of the argument - for and against the bailout. Warren Buffett, for instance, is for the bailout. This is not a black and white issue, and reasonable, intelligent people may look at the same facts and still disagree on their intepretation of the future.
