An 11-year-old boy has been suspended from school for wearing an anti-Barack Obama shirt declaring the Democrat presidential nominee as a "terrorist's best friend".
Daxx Dalton, a Year Five student at Aurora Elementary School in Colorado, wore the shirt to school on a day where students were asked to wear something red, white and blue to show their patriotism for the United States, Fox 31 News reports.
The school gave Dalton an ultimatum — turn the shirt inside out or he would be suspended.
"They're taking away my right of freedom of speech," Dalton told Fox 31.
"If I have the right to wear this shirt I'm going to use it — and if the only way to use it is get suspended, then I'm going to get suspended."
His father Dann, who describes himself as a "proud conservative", said the school's actions trampled on free speech.
"It's the public school system — let's be honest, it's full of liberal loons," Mr Dalton said.
"The facts are his rights were violated, period."
Aurora Public Schools declined to comment on the case but said it's investigating, while Mr Dalton has indicated his intentions to bring a lawsuit against the school district.
