I think it's a political move by McCain. I would agree with McCain if he was on the committee deciding to vote on this. However, I think he's trying to look presidential and then he can campaign that he fixed Wall St.

I think he's also ill prepared to debate a harvard law grad about the economy at a time when the economy is issue #1 on people's minds, and is probably going to be issue #1 in the debates, and he is on record as saying economics isn't his strong point, AND he just a week ago said the fundamentals of our economy are strong, right before we ended up knee deep in this weak ass stressed economy bullshit. Nice move Johnny boy, maybe you can tell everyone TERROR you're a POW and we'll forget you're a fucking retard when it comes to the economy.

          Heard someone say this today:

"Nobody is going to stop the Iraq war so you can focus on the economy John."

          Multitask BEEEOTCH!! McCain is toast.

This is an insult to people with "toast" in their name. I cringed when I read this.

In related news, McCain now wants to postpone the VP debate, too:

McCain will look like an enormous schmuck if he goes forward with the debate on Friday, so he's probably going to have to stick to his guns and not show if they don't get a bill worked out tomorrow. Obama can't very well debate himself (although McCain probably could), so it looks like nothing will happen on Friday.

This was actually supposed to be the foreign policy focused debate, so if this thing doesn't get rescheduled, McCain's stuck talking about the economy from here on out. Advantage Obama as of right now, I'd say.

I thought that McCain had a decent shot at this election up until now. With the latest economic developments, I think McCain and the Republicans are thoroughly fucked and are now comfortably destined to lose.

BTW, if this poll is to be believed, this "let's suspend our campaigns and postpone the debates" thing is a loser for McCain:

McCain should send in Palin as a backup, to debate Barack on Friday night; since her experience, knowledge, and credentials are most similar to Barack's...

only time we ever seen Palin is at the RNC and that one interview where she said the same thing over and over word for word. =\

I think if we stipulate this for the sake of argument it contrasts them even further. If we accept as fact that they have quantitatively the same experience (which as complete bullshit, but let's just concede it for the sake of argument), it makes the obvious rift in intellectual capability and rationality that much more strident.

It would be interesting to have Obama debate Palin, except for the fact that McCain's team has been hiding her from public questioning since the day she was asked. There is no reason they would let her loose for a debate. They're treating her like she's a muslim wife of a fundamentalist islamic cleric.
