Re: should they suspend the campaigning?
It would be interesting to have Obama debate Palin, except for the fact that McCain's team has been hiding her from public questioning since the day she was asked. There is no reason they would let her loose for a debate. They're treating her like she's a muslim wife of a fundamentalist islamic cleric.I like your Christ.
I do not like your Christians.
Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.

Re: should they suspend the campaigning?
I fear for the US over the next couple of days. The Bush administration has to do something to help McCain out or he is going to lose the election. Also McCain doesn't want to have a debate against Obama because he will obviously lose. I'm holding by breath over the next couple weeks.Comment

Re: should they suspend the campaigning?
Heard a thought on the radio this morning, not sure I agree, but wanted to throw it out there. What if McCain is suggesting postponing the debate because he simply doesn't want the debate to go forward right now?
It's not that he's afraid of debating Obama in the abstract -- it's that he's afraid no one will listen. This debate is supposed to be focused upon foreign policy, which is supposed to be McCain's strong suit, and where he's really going to shine. The problem is, people don't really care about foreign policy right now, they care about the economy, and McCain is concerned that his shining moment is going to come at a time that no one gives a rip what he has to say about foreign policy. Hence, his offer to postpone the debates until the economic situation has been addressed allows him to have the FP debate when people might actually listen.
Not sure I buy this, but I thought it was an interesting theory that makes some sense.

that was what I was getting at in my post. McCain doesn't want to talk economy he wants to talk about terrorism. Terrorism must happen for McCain to want to talk.Comment

But yes, delaying the debates will help both Palin and McCain. If the debate goes forward as planned, McCain will be debating when he expressed unwillingness to do so, he will be more apt to be shorter-tempered and distracted, because it's something he thought might not happen. On top of this, the point above: the debate will inevitably be muddied by the crisis, and national security and foreign policy discussion will revolve around our position in global financial markets and extra-national resources like oil. Not that it shouldn't, but of course McCain won't like it going there.
He wants to come down hard on terrorism (as if Obama doesn't) but no one's worried about terrorism when there is a depression looming. Kind of tough to scare people with the boogeyman when their money's on fire.Comment

Re: should they suspend the campaigning?
This is surely a sneaky move by McCain. Most intelligent people should be able to see this. How big of a difference will this make for them to be present, not a whole lot I think. I'm indifferent about if they should suspend the campaigning, McCain looks weak either way.Comment

Re: should they suspend the campaigning?
everyone knows mccain will own obama in any debate, WITHOUT PROMPTERS, as obama cant talk shit without something written in front of him; thats why he asked for 4 (four) prompters for this debate. so mccain didnt cancel this because he thought he would lose the debate.Comment

Re: should they suspend the campaigning?
btw, knock off this win/lose mentality. nothing is black and white; embrace the gray. the questions for the debates have probably been pre-picked and have likely been given to the candidates beforehand. The organization that runs the debates is chaired by 1 GOP member and 1 DNC member. It will be fair and nobody is going to 'lose'.you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky
it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles

Re: should they suspend the campaigning?
Honestly, what exactly is the big deal here? Presidential campaigns have never, ever been conducted the way they are being conducted right now. Everybody is reading conspiracy shit into every little freakin' decision being made by both parties... wtf ???
Could it possibly matter that the first debate might take place not on September 26 but instead on October 2? And that the vice-presidential debate might have to move from October 2 to, say, October 7? And that the October 7 debate be moved to October 22? ... Oh shit, wait a minute...There's a baseball playoff game on October 22, McCain must want to hide something from baseball fans !!!
More manufactured drama and conspiracy theories coming from the leftoid mothership... yawn...Q: What do Osama and Obama have in common???
A: They both have a friend that blew up the Pentagon!

Re: should they suspend the campaigning?
There's no "conspiracy" here and I haven't heard anyone suggest that there is, but you have to know that these guys are professional politicians and when they do something, they do it for a reason. John McCain did not wake up on Wednesday morning and say, "Fuck it, I'm flying to DC to save the economy!!!" He just didn't.
His decision to advocate postponing the debate was political, just as Obama's response that he didn't think it was necessary because he could walk and chew gum at the same time was political. A week ago, McCain thought the economy was going swimmingly, and today he wants to drop everything and inject himself into an economic debate he probably doesn't even fucking understand.
Conspiracy, no. Calculated, yes.
...but I don't think it's paying off for McCain...Comment

^^^HAHAHAHA... damn toasty beat me to it by 5 sec.
that is some funny right wing shit there.. Unfortunately things (especially in politics) are premeditated. For McCain to try to call off Friday there must be a good reason for it. Not just "oh well lets move it'' , and "what's the big deal".. that is that ''what do you have to hide'' kind of mentality rather then a free mentality.Comment
