Anyone check out the Wired Magazine "Creative Commons" CD in the latest mag? Since I subscribe I had to wait a bit longer than how long it has been on the shelf.
The CD is a nice compilation of some very nice music. I really like track 13 - Cornelius / Wataridori 2.
Here's the full tracklist:
1. Beastie Boys - Now Get Busy
2. David Byrne - My Fair Lady
3. Zap Mama - Wadidyusay?
4. My Morning Jacket - One Big Holiday
5. Spoon - Revenge!
6. Gilberto Gil - Oslodum
7. Dan the Automator - Relaxation Spa Treatment
8. Thievery Corporation - DC 3000
9. Le Tigres - Fake French
10. Paul Westerberg - Looking Up in Heaven
11. Chuck D with Fine Arts Militia - No Meaning No
12. The Rapture - Sister Saviour (Blackstrobe Remix)
13. Cornelius - Wataridori 2
14. Danger Mouse & Jemini - What U Sittin' On?
15. DJ Dolores - Oslodum 2004
16. Matmos - Action at a Distance
For the price of the mag, it's a decent disc. Of course, if you pay the $24 for 2 years, it's a GREAT price.
I hope that the accompanying article, and the disc help push forward the ideas of a creative commons for sampling, remixing, etc. As most of us are very interested in with house of all sorts - often depends on samples that are "free" without incurring huge costs just to include an obscure or even popular sample.
Check it out.
