Yep. It's a pretty scary time. The backbone of capitalism is being challenged.

extremely low, if the US congress passes the bill or a foreign governemnt does what the US should do (china leading candidate as they have more to lose than anyone money wise)
Ok so if everything crashed or almost crashes, a repeat of 1929 in inevitable?

Like someone mentioned above, do we need to start hoarding our money and keeping it away from the banks? Should we stop buying anything but food and gas?

Not really understanding any of this is kinda scary...

This housing/financial/credit crunch reminds me..... My thanks go out to Thesightless and Devon for steering me in the right direction when I bought my house last November. Fixed rate mortgages are good....ARM's bad. I am not sweating this economic situation yet, but I don't want to loan out my money without being protected.

YES!! I been watching this and thinking this is what it looks like when capitalism fails. !! It's shocking to see the free market crying out for government support. All those industries whose creed has been the survival of the fittest. They have kept saying letting markets forces set the agenda , well I think I agree with them now. Maybe we do need a huge shakeout.

This talk of the 700b just being a cap, don't you think they will be working out ways to grab as much of this as possible .?? Where are the safeguards??? Why the mad tearing hurry?? It has been built up that it has to be done immediately , it's a perception brought about by media and probably the fact that an election is coming up. A perception is deciding the world outcome. It's ridiculous. !!

Global realities are so different now it couldn't be the same as 1929. I don't think anyone really understands it properly. There are so many conflicting views. One side of me even thought that this was a last ditch stand by Bush not to go down as the president who bankrupted America.

Maybe we should look micro instead of macro for a moment. How much is it affecting us personally. ??

I keep thinking why are these unregulated businesses who ran their businesses so poorly getting all this money, when ordinary people are getting nothing, they will still loose their homes. ??

Ron Paul is going to be on in a program here shortly. Should be interesting.

sorry if this is a dumb question but what happens if my building society go under as they effectively own my house - i may have been paying back my mortgage for 8 years but there's 17 left so they own more of it than i do ? it always used to be that the chances were someone bigger will gobble them up and things carry on but no-one can be sure of that any more - where does the debt go if there is no bail-out or buy out??

                          hmmm
