Shure e3c Earphones for the I-Pod

Before you all tell me I'm a muppet, here's a little disclaimer - - I am a newbie and the technical differences between earphones and headphones prior to this impulsive purchases is analogous to the differences between miller and budweiser to the college beer drinker.

Okay - so I bought myself a new i-pod and being the silly extremist that I am, I decide to head out to get an expensive pair of Shure e3c earphones. I did this believing that dishing out the cash means getting quality music pumped into my ears. Unfortunately this little babies in my ears aren't doing it for me. I am not getting the low groovy basslines that move me when I listen to all my DJ sets.

I am really annoyed with this cause I paid good money for this. Anyone else experiencing this or am I doing something wrong? My regular MDR 500s give me much better bass than the Shures.

I haven't used either of the headphones you mention, but shure are very much a pro audio company - they make gear that puts quality and clarity before rump shakingly deep bass. It's a bit like comparing some studio monitors to a huge bad boy car stereo. It's quite understandable that you're after big groovy basslines more than being able to hear every nuance of the sound, but (although this probably isn't what you want to hear) that's likely to be the major difference!

    Sorry :?

There's quite a few posts on ipodlounge.com about the Shure earphones. The reason why they don't sound up to par when you first purchase them is bc of the fit.

The go in your ear pretty deep. They don't fit like the typical earphones...

try going to ipodlounge (they have a forum dedicated to this topic and it's active)

Also check out the Shure site....

let me know how it goes bc i'm thinking about buying a pair.....

I have a pair or e2c headphones and they are the best thing (next to iriver player itself) that I have bought in the last 6 months. HUGE difference in sound clarity + isolation (NYC noise and all)

If you are serious about music, you want headphones, not earphones. You want a cup over your ear, not some dildo you cram in there.

If you ever want good advice about headphones check this website out:

the shures and the new sony fontopia earbuds go into the canal. they need to fit correctly for you to hear the bass.

however, i agree with thecross... if you're serious about hi fidelity and don't mind spending the $$$, you should be getting some real closed end cans. check sennheisers...

Thanks guys! Wish I read this review before buying it. Apparently the bass (low freq.) is not particularly impressive.
