man, you gotta respect this guy. right up there with soscia, gardenhire and torre as top managers who get more outta what they're given.

just simple old school ideas, a blunt, yet personable demeanor in dealing with everyone who doesnt wear an MLB uniform.

makes the right decisions 9 outta 10. just a baseball lord up there with the best. and this year, with the injuries they had, and manny tanking it, and the shift to 90's yanks style team with a core of role players who are winners and not stat whores (attn:H.Steinbrenner)... man what a job.

Agreed tho. As much as i hate to admit it because i can't stand Boston, Francona is a hell of a manager. However, given his payroll and his players, we're not exactly talking about the guy having to dust the rust off a bunch of .220 hitters and making them champions. He's SUPPOSED to win with that payroll, and he is, so credit where it's due for sure.

Let's see Francona take LaRussa's payroll and team and see where he goes. I'm sure he'd do great, because he's a fine manager...im just sayin.

He's certainly the best Red Sox manager of my lifetime. And beyond that, nobody spits sunflower seeds with more grace and precision.
