The strange, lingering death of minimal techno

All good things must come to an end - and right now there's a definite fin-de-siecle atmosphere around minimal techno

The minimalists here are so desperate to hang on to it that they have labeled Hernan's latest mix minimal All two of them !!

that was a good read. i completely disagree though in regards to the death of minimal. it's still alive and well...just not on the forefront of things at the moment. honestly i think this kind of thing goes in cycles...first it's too minimal then melodies become popular again. after that things get overdone and then the pendulum swings back the other way...point in case being the period of 2001 to 2003/4 where progressive house was dark as night and if you heard a hi-hat you were surprised....then the whole electro influence came in for a couple years and now in 2008 everyone is pining for melody and you hear how it's coming back.

"blah blah blah blah blahdy fricken blah. 'minimal' sucks and is dying."

I've been listening to people talk this stuff on here and in other places for years now.

Personal preferences always play a big role. But if more people would shut their yaps for a minute and actually take the time to listen, they might be surprised to find that there are gems waiting to be discovered most everywhere.

And yes, even a lot of stuff that people dismiss as "minimal" actually has quite a bit of melody in it.

                Music is always changing.

it'll always be around, just like it has, it'll just go underground again. People are in need of other sounds. More melodic stuff you can remember long afterward because of the melody is still ringing in your ears. It's hard to do that with a Minimal track.

it'll be cool when a lot of big producers and djs move on to the next big thing so they'll stop fucking it up.

Piano house it is. Hopefully Acid house will come back afterwards.

Just in the same way that they pronounced trance dead, yet Armin is still apparently the no 1 DJ and he can sell out 20,000 capacity events in europe
