I've been listening to people talk this stuff on here and in other places for years now.

Personal preferences always play a big role. But if more people would shut their yaps for a minute and actually take the time to listen, they might be surprised to find that there are gems waiting to be discovered most everywhere.

And yes, even a lot of stuff that people dismiss as "minimal" actually has quite a bit of melody in it.

    Music is always changing.

Re: The strange, lingering death of minimal techno

When did EDM become trendy? It never used to be what was in or dying. It was just good DJs playing good music and undiscovered gems. Now we have these trends and movements and fuckwits telling us prog or techno is dead.

Re: The strange, lingering death of minimal techno

I am so sick to death of having minimal and techno shoved down my throat. !! I know there is good music everywhere , well total minimal I might argue with that, but I am just so sick of seeing nights advertised as say tribal, downloading main Dj , and it's about as tribal as my poodle. Rainbow serpent launch, now you would think you had a reasonable chance of some psy, all techno, still a reasonable night but not what I really wanted. I can't believe how sparse good nights are at the moment.
Well at least I'm saving money But I am in a really bad mood!!

You not only don't seem to be able to hear progressive, you can't even say the word without being jumped on.

Acid house is back, why else would you see DJ Pierre spinning to a full house at Space in Ibiza this summer.

Well put. Melody is back for now. Thought Sasha said it well too when he said that minimal was an update to progressive house. People were yearning for melody after a few years of dark progressive house. Digweed LA anyone? Another cycle and the music changing which is what's great about EDM.

But melody came and went very quickly after deep prog, then all that electro nonsense, then the pop minimal stuff ... it doesn't sound like melody has come back in a big way, certainly not the kinda melodies I remember from pre-deep prog period.

I can't find any events here, good or bad. But if there were some, chances are basically zero that it would be good tech house or minimal - even if it was a minimal event. 99% of minimal is garbage imo...I live for the 1%. But that 1% makes it worthwhile.

And if you want to talk about a word you can't say without being jumped on - that would be it

I basically live in my own head when it comes to what I consider good music. That and a few friends near and far who get it. That's how I've always done it. I've accepted that most people just aren't capable or don't want to see what I see in it, and that for the most part this will always be a solitary experience.

According to the EDM press Prog's been dead for years .. things just go underground baby.
