Yeah I think most artists are all late nighters. Like it's been said, the creative spirits come out late at night when the world is quieter.

I love your thoughts on that Didi. If you're gonna be broke why not be broke somewhere wonderful. I'm trying to not be broke when i get there. So hopefully I can get to the opposite of that.

Yeah Williamsburg is part of the burroughs in Brooklyn that has a lot of the arts scene today in NYC.

I know the economy is unstable right now, but at the same time, you can't let it hold you back.

If anyone has learned anything about doing what you need to do for yourself this year, it's me. You need to think only about yourself and make that plunge....live life to the fullest with as little regrets as possible!

You sound like you have financial stability for the most part, so I think you will be ok....and like others have said, if you don't like it there or it doesn't work out, you can always move back to Ohio (I believe it is)

jeff mate, this is a daring but exciting step forward.. do it while you still have the guts to or you may regret it.. like someone said earlier, if you dont like it, you can always move else where, and being an artist this will probably be really good for you.. I'd say be ready for some hard times financially, but other than that, it's probably well worth the risk.. but just be careful where you end up.. my best friend and his gf moved to nyc two years ago and ended in an affordable spot that was real dodgy, i think in brooklyn.. now they are in queens I believe in an apt above an irish pub.. well happy now!

Thanks for the positivity. Yeah I'm gonna go there a few more times before finding the right place. I want a place that has concrete floors and walls so I don't have to deal with my neighbors. LOL.

Yeah the economy sucks right now, but like everything else, it does change. I've got enough right now to survive decently for around 6 months or more depending on how frugal i wish to become. hahahaha

If you think you are going to get your own place in Williamsburg for less that 1300 a month and not live in a closet good luck to you.

yeah but if you want easy access to NYC - the PATH train sucks - esp. if you are going out on the weekend to hear djs, etc.

Best of luck with the whole concrete floors, etc. - except at least $2500-3000. A studio will cost you min. $2000.

Jersey City has a lot of dangerous areas, so make sure you ask around before you decide to take a place.

it takes alotta guts to just move somewhere away from family and friends.

This thread is serving as inspiration to me, because i have wanted to live in NYC for a while now, but haven't had the balls. It's a great city for sure, the vibrance of the city can definitely be a great inspiration to one's crafts.

                              Good luck in your search!

Thanks Aleks. I'm just trying to do all the research that I can. And what better way than to ask all these people on here that have lived in NYC.

Yeah I never really gave thought to living in NJ. I am though recently thinking about Phili as it's also a great city and only about an hour train ride into NYC. But I do wanna be really close to things.

Thanks Mike for letting me know about the concrete floors...but I thought most of those newer buildings all had concrete floors. As looking on CL has really helped me to learn about some nice looking places for good money. I just gotta get there and look personally.
