DJing Technics mk2 sound problem... please help!

so recently i bought 2 used mkll 1200 decks to replace my older ones. soon as i connected them to my mixer and turned the volume up, i could hardly hear any music coming out frm the speakers.. even when i put it on max, i could hear something but not loud at all.. i tried other inputs on the mixer but this didnt solve the problem. i connected my cdjs to the mixer and they work fine so i dont think its the mixer! and when i tried connecting the decks straight to my amp, problem persists! i even changed cartringes/needles and didnt work. then i put the same cartringe back to my older decks and they worked fine! thing is, the volume is quiet even through the headphones and i noticed that i can hear only from one side, different side for each deck... coz this is happening with both decks!

anyone here had a similar problem or knows what this could be??

check the RCA leads coming from your Tech's.....most probaply you have to open the decks and replace the rca leads! i would also still change the needles and see what happens.

    Good luck mate

I've heard of that happening with techs. I don't know why a long time ago they didn't have rca's that you could take off while transporting somewhere.

yeah tonearms do get faulty. I might think about getting it into a service place.

Are your old turntables technics and when you tried the cartridge change were they plugged into the same mixer? They have to plug into a line level input channel to preamp the signal. When I got my cdj's and tried using one of my turntables I had the exact same problem so I just had to change the input it was going into. Does the back of your mixer have any inputs with the word "line"?

your mixer has two different types of inputs for each fader of your mixer. There is one set for things needing a ground...like a Turntable and the other is for items that need no ground, like a CDJ. He's saying you could have possibly put the table into the wrong input, which you cause your sound to be heavily changed.

                  Ok thanks for clarifying Jeffrey

I had the same problem a couple of years ago but the problem was the needles ......if the issue is not the rca's from the decks then you better take it back whre you bought it from ......what if you dont ground your turntables will you still have a big change of sound? .....maybe he forgot to ground them?

grounding doesnt affect the sound level just the sound quality

yes mate, it has two inputs for each channel and i have tried both! i know this thing coz my older decks had a similar problem the very first time i plugged them on the mixer. one of the inputs is quiet and the other is ok. but this is not the case here...

@ Steve: Steve they're grounded anyway but as you said volum is not affected, its just the sound more distorted..

i'll probably have to find somewhere to send them to get them repaired! funny thing is, the other day i was in Leeds center looking for a place where they repair decks and not only i didnt find one, but whoever i asked in audio equipment shops and music stores they didnt bloody know!!

When I began dj'ing. I was doing it with a pair of Denon tables that don't have a ground, which was weird at the beginning. But it gives you one more thing you don't have to worry about when hooking everything up. Granted I wish they had made the pitch adjustment 8% instead of 12%. Which made the tables much more touchy.
