    Melbourne loves Danny Howells !

And he loves us !! I've just got home from an absolutely magical night, I've seen Danny a couple of times but tonight he was just fucking amazing. I danced through the whole six hour plus set and I am totally wrecked. In the best possible way

Re: Melbourne loves Danny Howells !

I'm glad you gave him the reception he deserved in Melbourne.

It was a different story here in Perth. I didn't go but the DJ before Howells was apparently playing trance. Danny only played for an hour. I hope he comes back and plays somewhere better...actually I hope I move to Melbourne!

    This is from Danny's blog:

Only two days in, yet wondering what I'm doing here. It's not the crowds or the venues that's wrong, but I'm just curious as to what my purpose is.
I'm supposed to be promoting my Renaissance cd - if anyone's heard it, it's quite deep, and the tempo ranges from about 120 to 127 bpm. I don't know how I'm supposed to promote it or play remotely in that style when opening djs decide to play techno/trance at 132 bpm right before I go on.

Last night in Perth was a great example of a lost opportunity. Really cool, intimate club with a nice crowd. However, as I was walking in, the first track I heard was "The Man With The Red Face" being blasted at 132 bpm. This is not just ignorance, this is downright rude. If you're playing a support slot, you really need to have at least the vaguest idea of what the headline dj is going to play. After the promoter told this dj to "bring it down a bit", he brought the tempo down a notch. The music, however, was the kind of driving prog/trance that I imagine Armin Van Buuren plays. As a result I played a shorter set than I was supposed to. It was impossible to hold onto the energy that this guy had created, and so there was very little I could do musically.

I don't come down under very often, so it's a kick in the teeth when I'm forced into either banging the shit out of it all night thanks to the opener, or am forced into playing a reduced set time. I come here to do my best, and if I'm not being given the platform to do that, then I'm very sorry.

I'm talking to my agent about ensuring the rest of the tour goes to plan - if this means I have to do all the opening slots myself, then that's what I'll do.
Sorry to sound so grumpy, but I wanted to air this. Keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of the trip!

Danny sounds so disapointed about the Perth gig. And he should be!! Way to go opening D.J. I would have been pissed if I went to that gig!

good on Danny to say something imo.. it was probably some local dickhead thinking this was his big chance to impress Danny Howells with a scorcher of an opening set, lol

you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky

it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles

Danny has always been top notch every time i catch him and a real nice guy to talk to as well .. nice to know that he was awesome as usual in Melbourne but just sucks to hear that the opening DJ in Perth had to ruin the night for everyone though

Re: Melbourne loves Danny Howells !

I was there at the Perth gig and it was a recipe for disaster from the beginning. Danny was booked at a night called Frisk which is one of the cheesiest and most metrosexual "electro house" fail nights in this city. If you actually care about music, which most of the people that attend this night don't, you'll agree it's rubbish. Think guys wearing massively open v-neck shirts and snakeskin shoes. The only thing going for the night is lots of tarts. Anyway I'm a big fan of Howells and wasn't going to miss his set so I went along. This was only the second time I had ever been to a Frisk night because after the first time I decided I will probably never go again. This is an example of the music they promote on their website "Slut Electro, Ghetto Fuck, Nu Wave Rave, Twisted Glam, Filthy Disco." You get the picture.

I don't know how he ended up playing at this night, as it was completely unsuitable. There was hardly any local promotion for it either. I asked a few people there, so are you a fan of Danny Howells? Their response "who is Danny Howells?" *sigh* The local support dj before Danny Howells is called "Damir." I arrived with about an hour remaining of his set. He was playing pretty mainstream house and then the last half hour went a bit heavier into epic driving deadmau5 prog stuff and pumping techno. I was beginning to think to myself... where the hell is Howells going to start from? Danny was supposed to start playing at 1.30am but be started playing at about 1.45am instead. I think he was waiting for the support dj to bring it down, but he never really did. Anyway Danny stepped up and started with his intro track, then into Danny Howells - Right Off (Danny's Discomix). Started nice and deep to my pleasant suprise, and he was still holding the dancefloor. After about half an hour I heard that Danny wasn't particularly pleased with the situation he was in and was going to cut his set short. After just over 1hr Danny stepped down and the local closing dj took over. Danny played an excellent hour anyway, although it felt so short.

I was mega disappointed but had a feeling that something like this would happen because all the dj's and punters who are associated with Frisk are the type that listen to and play Ministry of Sound compilation tracks. Even one of the other local Frisk dj's was asking a friend whether Danny will start playing anything "dirtier and faster" soon. The unfortunate thing is that if he was booked at a different night and with different local support, that this would have been a stellar night. Now I wouldn't be suprised if he never wants to return to Perth again. Fuck what a disaster.

Anyway heard you guys in Melbourne were treated to a 6hr set! Jealous is a huge understatement!

People who DJ or go to that club could never appreciate Danny anyways. Not when they list hard house dj's on thier roster. He should be happy he skirted a few grand away from them.

although i find it odd that he didn't have enough In-Tec records to throw down.
