    starting with this:

    you have to be fucking kidding me. fucking, fucking fucking kidding me.

    They realized all this about this person within a few days of picking her and yet they went ahead for two months bullshitting us ... and risking the live possibility that she could be president of the United States at a moment's notice after next January.

      *gasp* No...not the Republicans. They would never do something like that. This is just more of that "gotcha" journalism!

        Hopefully more stories come out and it completely ruins her chances of ever being even in consideration for VP/President again. In fact, hopefully it ruins her reputation in Alaska too and she gets kicked out of Governor at next election... someone that accepts the job of potential VP with that lack of knowledge should absolutely not be in a position of power. At all.

            it doesn't tick me off as much to know that she wasn't a worthy potential VP, it ticks me off more that McCain who's way more knowledgeable/experienced than her STILL chose her and RAN with it trying to convince everyone she would make a worthy president. A PRESIDENT for chrissakes.

            Just goes to tell you how crappy the McCain presidency would've really been considering even their internal team had people like Palin who wouldn't even prepare for a measly interview with Couric, what preparation (if any) did they have to take on the problems this nation is going through today.

            speechless.

            Guess she can go back to the shack she reported to everyday in Wasalasa whatever the fuck it is in Alaska.

              Palin didn't know Africa was a continent
              I'm not surprised one bit.. two weeks before election day there were reports that McCain advisors were annoyed with Palin giving impromptu interviews and answering questions without being coached etc...

              i just hope she seriously goes away, and at least educates herself a bit more before she tries to run for anything significant again. the only thing is she comes across as way too arrogant to do so, which is fine, because that will just give us more material to have a good laugh at

              and all these women with their little pink mccain/palin stickers on your vehicles, open your eyes and ears for gods sake

                I think it's pretty clear that the McCain campaign and the Palin agenda were not one and the same. Indeed, McCain and Palin represent two different constituencies in the Republican party -- Palin appeals to the Bitters that cling to guns and religion and yell out racial epithets at rallies, and I can't tell you exactly who McCain represents right now, but I suppose it would be the more centrist wing of the party. The GOP is probably -- well, make that definitely -- doing some soul-searching right now, and maybe they've concluded that putting some distance between themselves and the Bitters is a good move in the long term, that the Rove strategy of running to the right isn't likely to be what they need to get their house back in order.

                Throw Sarah under the bus, and send a message that the party is looking to put the Sarah Palin era behind it.

                Dunno though. Just a thought, but the fact that this is on Fox makes it more likely that this is going to be the official message coming out of the GOP, IMO.

                  the only person to blame is McCain. I can't believe that they would slander Palin like this. Yes she is stupid but McCain could have picked anyone. It just goes to show that McCain wasn't a great leader because he made a mistake right away.

                      Re: Sarah Palin aftermath thread

                      One more thing and then I'll try to resist the temptation to beat this dead horse -- Newsweek reported that Palin wanted to speak on election night, too, but McCain shot that down. I thought McCain's concession speech was outstanding, and showed, for the first time in a long time, the reason that people liked John McCain so much to begin with -- but I couldn't help but notice how small Palin looked standing there behind him, lips clenched tightly, like she was trying to hold back from yelling out some crazy shit. Gave me great joy...

                      Best picture I could find of it, but it really doesn't do the moment any justice:

                      as an aside, doesn't McCain kinda look like he's wearing a superhero utility belt in this photo?

                        look, after Obama chose Biden, McCain didn't have a choice. He was going to get destroyed. His only chance was to really really really rally everyone....by throwing a hail-mary pass towards the endzone. Sarah Palin was that hail-marry pass.

                        McCain isn't to blame; Bill Kristol is to blame. Social conservatives are to blame. We should have to be choosing batshit crazy christians to 'appeal' to christians to get out the vote because they think we're on thier team. That shit has got to stop. The pandering to christians must stop.

                        Ayn Rand had it right: the GOP lost its soul when it began to embrace faith over empiricism.

                              I agree with this 1000%. McCain was already fading before he picked Palin, and going with Romney, Pawlenty, etc. would not have changed that trajectory, so McCain did what he had to do to change the narrative. Palin will ultimately go down as a net negative, I think, but she wasn't the reason McCain lost. McCain lost, in my opinion, because:

                              1. The GOP brand is 100% in the shitter with independents;
                              2. The economic crisis + ("I don't know much about economic issues" x "the fundamentals of the economy are strong") = looking like a smacked ass;
                              3. He ran an erratic, undisciplined campaign that constantly changed message and messenger, lacked any real consistency and at times looked panicked;

                              and perhaps most importantly,

                              4. He ran into an absolute juggernaut in Obama who was the right guy to deliver the right message at the right time -- and who could outspend him by a wide, wide margin. There are those of you that disagree with his politics, to be sure, but I don't see how anyone could disagree with the idea that, as a politician, he's a phenom.
