    starting local online community-Movable Type PRO!

    This is just a though, but would like to know if anybody has done this before. What am i looking at. the initial pupose is to to connect all the local djs, promoters and producers to the Dc metro Area and the surrounding states. The software is a BEAST. already have the domain. getting the software soon.

      Out of curiosity, why not Wordpress which is free and extensible?

              Apparently TextPattern is free and extensible too, but I don't know what the difference is.

                  because i can get a free version of movable since my roommate works with the company. but if you guys recomend Textpattern that is what i am going to go with.

                                  Remember with wordpress or a blogger site, you can always have people e-mailing you events and you post then and they talk about them in the comments. But a regular forum to me, is way better, that way you don't have to do all the work.

                                      Mazi, good luck with the site, since the Buzz Board is down on Buzzlife.com we need a one stop shop for EDM in the DC Area. Let me know when it's up and running.

                                                  Depends on what you want, but a forum or a blog is the easiest way to go. If you intend to have a more 'magazine' style for layout and content with music reviews, interviews, articles, then a proper CMS would be logical.

                                                  I used to use SMF for forum, pretty straight forward. Just read about this PunBB forum software which sounds promising.

                                                  I mentioned Textpattern because I was just reading about it here and it links to a WordPress Developer's Toolbox which should be useful.

                                                      I would give drupal a try - has many features (blog/forum) and tons of plugins/modules for extra stuff

                                                          i would like it to function somewhat like resident advisor.
                                                          id like the local djs to have profiles. be able to promote their shows.
                                                          producers their production.
                                                          also forum to discuss music, sets.
