toasty's bi-annual "why the hell do i live here" post

I just stepped outside for the first time today, and jesus harold christ in a chicken basket did the bottom fall out from a temperature standpoint. It was around 70 and sunny yesterday, and the current temperature with the windchill is 38 degrees. My lunch plans went from "well, I'll see what I'm in the mood for" to "get me some fucking chili, right away." It's times like this that I really begin to question my decision to live in a part of the country where the temperature can dramatically change without warning. Fucking madness.

Note to self: when living in Missouri, always check the weather before leaving the house in sandals and short sleeves.

Chili sounds good right now. As does getting drunk at 130pm on a Friday afternoon, which I am currently doing.

You can't have manslaughter without laughter.

"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl."

Getting drunk and eating chilli simultaneously certainly has its merits ... hence tequila.

Man, I used to love the snow when I lived out west within an hour or so from a bunch of ski resorts. Now, it just gets in the way...
