Making Websites (Need Help)

ok mates, here i need to solve a question, im making a website for my bussines, so since i dont want to spend money for someone to do it...

so here are a couple of questions

how do i make a shopping request...so they can buy online?, do i need to know programing or something? PHP mySQL or something else? is it hard to do it?....

other thing i have a gallery and i want to make it this way

i have already make it on tables but everytime that i add the CSS that i donwload from that page it makes my background in blank i remove background color and add my image but it doesnt appear....

About the gallery: http://sonspring.com/journal/hoverbox-image-gallery

About the shopping cart/checkout you could use a free package from http://www.oscommerce.com/solutions/oscommerce or http://www.zen-cart.com/ you will most likely need to learn some PHP and use a MySQL database (simple stuff for basic things)
