    Argh! I'm a fucking idiot.

I was trying to access a folder on my desktop, but it wouldn't open for some reason. It's on a 2000/XP dual-boot computer, and I have both desktops/favorites/etc all pointed to the same location so either OS has the same data. The folder I was trying to get into is all the "To CD" mp3s that I have, ones that I've screened, loved, and put away to be burned.

When I couldn't get in to the folder, I just erased it thinking I'd recreate another shortcut that worked... so I shift+deleted, then realized they were both the same desktop. Freaking out, I downloaded 4 file undeletion programs, but none are even finding the mp3s. They're lost.

I seriously delete 95% of all sets I download, so I'm pissed. The only one that I even remember having in there was last month's (not this week's) Kasey&Chris Proton Vaporized show, which I ripped myself... If anybody has this, please hit me up in PM. I know I had a few of the past Kiss sets in there too, but I don't even remember which they were. I went through [ms] sets & recommendations and found one other, but there's still like 7 more than I'm missing. I'ma fucktard.

didn't try that one... I'll check it out right now.

I could always ask my boss to restore that folder from the company's nightly workstation tape backups, but I really don't think he'd help me out with this one.

Why not just ask the IT guy? Are you sure they're tape backups? It might be a lot easier than you think. Unless your company is really small, I bet they have something more accessible than tape backup.

I work in IT for my company (with over 1200 employee just in my branch). I can just ask a buddy to get the tape backup... but the buddy is also a boss, and he'll tell me too bad. Our tapes are kept off-site, so it would involve paying to have the tapes brought back from the off-site location and the folder retrieved through the tapes. It's too bad, I've gotten back half of the CDs that were in there, so no biggie. It's not that I lost all my music, it's just that I lost all the good ones that I've sorted through from the past 6 months or so... it's annoying, not critical
