Re: The Official Layoff Thread!!!
Thanks, guys. I can't say I'm surprised to find myself in this position. I've seen the likelihood of this coming and I've been saving like mad for the past few months... Resume and cover letter are up and running, and I've been posting for jobs for a few weeks now. I'm realistic about the fact that it could take me a long time in this economy to find something like I just lost, but goddamit...I will, even if it takes me years to do it. And fortunately it's just me on my own, and can will tough it out and work whatever menial jobs to make ends meet if I have to.
One way or another...I'm getting through this shit storm in one piece.mixes: www.waxdj.com/miroslavComment

Re: The Official Layoff Thread!!!
man this is getting bad. i have been with my firm for 10 years...they have already laid off many people and i was lucky to stay....but i just got this email from corporate....
we are projecting a $973,600 loss before taxes for 2009, a 36% greater loss than suffered in 2008! We simply cannot operate with such a planned loss. It would likely require us to acquire outside capital, and at this time banks are unwilling to lend for any purpose, least of all to help a company cover anticipated losses.
This week the executive committee adopted a number of projected corporate-wide retrenchment actions that will eliminate this projected loss, but with significant pain for all of us. These actions will become effective February 1.Comment

To all of you who responded - thank you for your thoughts and wishes, very much appreciated. I'll pull through this one way or another. And I very much hope that your jobs stay safe and stable. And to all of you who are in my shoes: I feel your pain...stay focused...we'll make it to better times.
I'm a financial analyst. I have a BA in Economics and an MBA with an emphasis in Corporate Finance. Got my MBA from the Fisher College of Business (Ohio State University) in 2008. Never had lower than a 3.7 GPA in any of my studies. I have 5+ years of experience doing various controllership, planning, forecasting, accounting, and SAP implementation activities in the pharmaceutical, retail restaurant, and aviation aircraft industries (vast majority in pharma) - business plans, forecasts, balanced scorecards, month-end close activities, budgets, SAP testing, etc.
I was just recently in a 2-year financial leadership development rotation program for post-MBAs that had me doing stints in different parts of my company: 2 business units, investor relations, corporate treasury. Got cut on the first rotation after watching half my classmates get cut a few months ago.
I should be Six Sigma Green Belt certified by the time I leave here, and I plan on starting another financial certification as soon as I am able (put it on hold when I saw how shaky my job was). If you need a resume, just let me knowmixes: www.waxdj.com/miroslavComment

Re: The Official Layoff Thread!!!
impressive...i do various bits and pieces of that myself right now (though i have more of a commercial development/ BD focus).
my company has a hiring freeze on right now, but have you ever thought about oil and gas in general? may be one of the few sectors that would be hiring right now in that line of work (think exxon, or one of the other supermajors). look towards houston!Comment
