I just hope that if djs move to software, that the mixes themselves are more intelligent/forward thinking and overall a lot better.

The technology shift is only a good thing if things improve and the "ease" of it just leaves more room for creativity.

I can't understand how in this industry/scene people can't embrace technology and change. These are the same arguments that came out when DJ's started switching from vinyl to CD. Technology changes and if you as a DJ can't change and adapt along with it, you will not succeed....you will be left behind.

No matter what means you use to present your music and soul to the crowd, you still need the skills and abilities to transition a track and move a crowd. You either have it or you don't, and the type of equipment you use, won't change that.

Yup agree. I mean if u don't know how to mix music then even with the computer doing the beat matching which is the easiest then forget it. The computer is not gonna tell u what to play. End of story

Just imagine in 20 years time when people are making the most mind-blowing music with all sorts of new and different effects and technologies.

Will there still be people who say "Well can you synchronise the BPM of 2 tunes together on a turntable - because that's what DJing is about". LOL

Sorry guys, I think we're on completely different wavelengths here. Some of you are going on about presentation and looking at DJs pulling vinyl out of sleeves vs flipping CDs through a book, some of you are going on about the final end product, the set, which was never an issue. Some of you refer to beat matching as what's needed to make a fade in to the next track.

I'm on about something else entirely, the amount of work required to maintain those beautiful long mixes between tracks. That requires skill, I don't even know why it's up for debate.

Just as I concur it takes a lot of skill and the right ear to program a set, and the ability to multi task and hold the bigger picture in your head if you want to layer and fuck around with efx.

How about people that are provinyl and cdjs enjoy the regular sets as much as possible and have a blast, but when you have a laptop dj performing just think to yourself ..."this guy better impress me because i know what he is capable of doing."... Instead of already shutting yourself down before the software dj goes on stage.

I think it would be a more honest approach to music.

Mate, I have never discriminated between the tools DJs use. I go to a gig never knowing what the DJ is going to use. This was never about discrimination, the bunch of you turned it into that. I kept pointing out that I danced my ass off to the set, I really really loved the mixing. To me, that would've been technical brilliance. I was making a point about appreciating the effort that goes into maintaining those mixes. But fuck it, I've had enough. I'm gonna look for some boobs to post.

Err, I think Feather said that in the opening post. Who shuts themselves down.?? The majority of us have said we have the approach you suggest. It was never about which was better, vinyl/cd or technology, it was always about the skill set needed ! Some have more respect for the extra skills needed for vinyl/ cd mixing. I don't include myself in that because I don't have the knowledge to comment. I comment purely on the way I feel on the night.
