I wouldn't complain about the laptop djing if the music was good but the vinyl - cdj feel definteley gives you a different vibe especially in a club imo.

You had a good time right? You go to clubs to have a good time, yes?
Now personally I prefer to DJ with vinyl when I am playing... I find Ableton boring and cdj isn't tactile enough. However, when I am in a club I have not got a care in the world what the music is being played on... My ears are the things that are tuned in... I could quite easily leave my eyes at home.

I really think you guys need to get your priorities right.

Sure I had a good time. I'm not complaining the set or the flow here, we all know it's programming that makes a set. When I listen to the sets we have on the forum, I don't even care if they were done on vinyl or sofrware. But this is one of the few times in a club when the mixing really jumped out at me, and I'm not easily impressed, so I think it's perfectly reasonable to be slightly surprised and disappointed when I found out it was all done on a laptop. The layering and precision of the mixing was incredible for someone mixing on decks, but on a laptop? Slightly less incredible. Hence my reaction.

If you saw an exact still-life painting, you might marvel at the precision of the artist's lines and redition. But what if it was a photograph put through a Photoshop filter to look like a painting? Kinda takes a bit of the magic out of it.

It doesn't detract from the overall balance and composition of the painting, but it certainly changes your mind about the execution and mastery of the media.

This is purely my reaction to the mixing: I heard amazing mixing, which I found out was done on a laptop. Simple as. I never said anything about the vibe or the set because I danced my ass off. So stop being so precious and defensive about my reaction on discovering it was done on a laptop. This is by no means a diss at people who mix on laptops, I've compared the likes of Sasha and Hawtin in the past and the way Hawtin is really pushing it, so props to DJs like Hawtin.

Not only Digweed but also a very well known dj from Argentina but i wont say the name just to pick on everybody's brain ...

I call all of this evolution it's as simple as that .

With Software you can do so many things that you can not do physically with vinyl or cdjs being that said the performance becomes more interesting and the dj is in more control of the set.

Laptops only help you with the beat match , the easiest thing in mixing ...Any dj can beat match is really simple... you clearly don't have any knowledge of what djing is about .


People, understand that EDM is a scene that has always moved along with technology this should be seen as a completely normal thing.

whats the difference between using time coded cds with serato or traktor scratch, and using cds you burnt?

nothing! other than you have ALL your music at your disposal on a HD.. this is more about having access to all your music rather than having to keep burning cds, which is a pain in the ass, plus every now and again you get a bad burn.. if you catch it at home thats one thing but if youre in a hurry and find out in a club that sucks, lol

exactly ... i recall lawler when he said that he had gained his life back when he went software due to fact that before it would take him days to look for his old records and pile up his crate when he was going on tour . now it was just as easy as it is.

Again this is all a mind thing ... you seem a bit of an idealist which is fine , but if you are going to do an analogy of something like "painting" i think is totally out of context and irrelevant , because a painting is done with oils and organic material taking many days involving the mood of the painter throughout all those days.

This reminds me of the history of the electric guitar when it came out many years ago and of-course the people that where used to the acoustic guitars were horrified by it , imagine all the great music that we would have missed if the electric guitar would've never been invented.
