I would challenge that, maintaining those long mixes is where real skills come in, something which is clearly easier to do with software. Track selection is what happens in the DJ's head, but mixing is ultimately reliant on his body's memory of the practice he's put into it.
Just to mention something software doesn't always beatmatch for you there are some times were the sync is not on it's right spot in that particular situation the ear is what matters... now.... do i feel more satisfaction because i beatmatch the track by ear better than the computer ... not at all.
Many years ago dj's like Ron trent were playing on turntables with out pitch control , I believe for that time it was good, but now a days could I stand a set like that i don't think so... even though the guy was probably doing tremendous amounts of physical work to keep the mood and beat going but with tons of nudges on his sets now a days it just wouldn't do it for me.
Technology is what will bring all of us closer to perfection, simplifies life, gives us comfort , it's precision is what makes it beautiful and while you are at it you can do other stuff that before you wouldn't do maybe like play 4 decks at the same time with some dj tools on the side .
the bottom line is that if you love good music and is your passion you shouldn't find this as a disappointment on how this set is being performed , To me that's a prejudgment.
To me skills have nothing to do here when it comes having an amazing set being perform by a dj again in the end what matters is what comes out of the speakers.
Was very nice discussing this with you Feather have fun with Simon baker and to chuckc ... well I should know better than to respond to a 13 year old.
Kind of funny to see so many of you getting all butt hurt about mixing on laptops.
I thought this was more progressive oriented board?
Give Traktor a go with a great mixer and you might change your mind. It is so nice to be able to have 4 tracks flawlessly going at the same time, looping bits and pieces, doing awesome effects, maybe even playing a synth on the side. Makes for such a fun & unique experience.
