    Religulous

This is a new documentary I saw the other day that is worth mentioning.

    Plot:
Bill Maher interviews some of religion's oddest adherents. Muslims, Jews and Christians of many kinds pass before his jaundiced eye. Maher goes to a Creationist Museum in Kentucky, which shows that dinosaurs and people lived at the same time 5000 years ago. He talks to truckers at a Truckers' Chapel. (Sign outside: "Jesus love you.") He goes to a theme park called Holy Land in Florida. He speaks to a rabbi in league with Holocaust deniers. He talks to a Muslim musician who preaches hatred of Jews. Maher finds the unlikeliest of believers and, in a certain Vatican priest, he even finds an unlikely skeptic. Written by J. Spurlin

A pile of wank by a pretentious wanker...I am not religious at all I just didn't like the tone of the movie at all. I also felt that the Bill thinks a tad bit too much of himself...He doesn't quite understand that no one outside America really gives a shit about what he has to say.

^^ as entertaining as i found this movie, i have to agree with you. maher did an excellent job of pointing out the sheer idiocracy of some beleifs and religous traditions, but also made himself look like a self righteous, self absorbed ass at the same time. i will give him credit for pointing out the douchbaggery afoot with religous followers as some of them are clearly not in their right mind. the guy from mexico who states he is the second coming of christ reincarted and then stated he was a decendant had me rolling.

^^Yeah thats true...but anyone interested in religions with an open mind kind of understands all that anyway...I just felt a bit sorry for some of them...obviously they rely on religion as a source of strength to go on...and then he comes and tells them they are idiots...its just plain rude.

YAH, he's actually a pastor of a very large church in Miami and clearly more insane than most.

I can relate with Bill Maher when he says that he's never heard the word "NO" so much before in his life...

I had a similar experience when I moved from California down to bibleville Florida, I was being told "no" constantly...f*cking repressed backward-ass thinking down here...I couldn't even fathom what it must be like in south carolina, mississippi or alabama...lmao

                  Re: Religulous

I just saw this movie today. I found it to be highly enjoyable! It did an excellent job at examining the outrageous and irrational beliefs that the most popular religions on the planet feel to be true. I also thought that it made some truly valid points when it comes to religions impact on the future of the world we live in.

And as far as Bill Maher goes, he always acts like a self-righteous tool...so his behavior in this movie was no surprise to me. I love his frankness when it comes to his interviews and have always enjoyed watching him piss off people that don't share the same views as him. So I'm sure fans of Real Time and his stand up will find this film as highly enjoyable as I did.

                    Re: Religulous

It had it's moment (such as finding a joint after the guys hair almost went up in flames) but as a whole, it was stupid. He conveniently interviewed ridiculously stupid people. There are people out there who can actually justify the existence of God in an intelligent and convincing way.

I think he should have concentrated on religion itself, rather than the existence of God. Then, it would have been mildly interesting and valid. But, I pretty much view this doco as a comedy (attempt at comedy anyway) and not serious in anyway.
