    beatport should hire me to....

beatport shuold hire me to divide up the music people put into "progressive House" into progressive house and NEW JERSEY DOUCHEBAG HOUSE.

seriously, man, is anyone over there paying attention?

does this mean sasha and john can take back trance as a genre if the shite is ending up here now?

is it a trend that 2-3 years after someone asks them what they are playing, the response is deluged with garbage>?>??>

i mean, there literally is a "i like to poarty, we like to party" remix in there right now.....

i pretty much know what i'm buying when i go to beatport. i never just pull up the new stuff and browse. i have my artist and label list set up at 100 max each, and it's golden. i might miss a new comer here or there by not rummaging through the all the new bulshit, but really, is it that big of a deal? no.

I go to the port on a Tuesday to check charts and see new releases in tech house and deep house sections....Those two sections will have anything from minimal, tech house, techno, and deep house within them...Never fails.

the key is to stop thinking of music in terms of genre and just think of it as music.

i do, i tend to gravitate to deep house and house b4 prog, but there is some stuff you only find there, the edgier harder stuff.

and i really have forgotten most other places, and dont often keep on top of whats playing, i like to discover. like for instance, i couldnt tell you what is being hammered lately, nor how to find it. but i can recite my own set lists simply b.c i love the music. (notably i HATE tiger stripes techno stuff, but LOVE thier deeper, tribal style stuff like rasmus marimba track and others).

Re: beatport should hire me to....

I love it when I find tracks that I don't see anyone else spinning. That makes my sets unique...although putting my own tracks in there helps too.

But yeah Beatport has really been lacking on how they categorize tracks lately. Most of the stuff I would deem as progressive is usually put in the Techno section. Including some of my stuff.

But I think they do these things for a reason, seeing as how more people seem to be into "Techno" these days, so they just add more tracks in there to help more unknown producers to get their tracks a bit more known.

It's just that when you go in there, if you want something other than the top 100, you just have to spend a bit more time digging.

Don't you guys usually go by labels and producers? I guess this is where your traditional bricks and mortar record shop wins. People working in them usually care about their music regardless of the genres they're into. I used to step into a store and pick out the new releases to listen, and some guy behind the counter I'm friendly with who shares similar taste will recommend whatever I missed out on.

Not really. There are a few that I like to check for..Names of artists and/or labels haven't really interested me in a long ass time...Most of the names are made up or are the same artists using different names anyway...I go for a certain sound rather than thinking I have to like every song that my so called "favorite" artist puts out.

True, but I generally go by labels as a guide to the type of sounds to expect.

I actually asked the guys at Beatport about this a while back and they told me "Genres have different meanings in different countries so we do our best."

I gave them a blank WTF? stare afterwards...
