    SQL 2000 & SQL desktop engine

    does anybody know how to install them or can point me in the right direction, i had install sql 2000 of what i think is rite, but when i try to install desktop engine it says "the instance name is invalid" so what should i do?

    The desktop engine (MSDE) is really just a slimmed down SQL 2000 meant to run independently on a desktop. So if you did install SQL 2000 successfully, it would make sense that you got that error because you would already have SQL running with an instance named the same as your machine if you selected the default. Basically, you dont need MSDE if you already have SQL 2k.
