Penny? He said tying up lose ends with an old friend, I'd assume he was implying Penny's dad.

i think Ben tried to kill Penny to give Desmond a good reason to come to the Island to have his revenge. He called from a harbour and they were on a boat. But Charles Widmore also knew that both were in town and he surely not only trust Desmond that he could protect Penny so he had own people there that stopped Ben before he could kil Penny .. Ben got away after a fight. Penny and Charlie hopefully are still alife.

With Sayid ... i think Ben always have a Plan B. Sayid is a hunted international murder, he sure gave informations to some agency after he knew that Sayid would come on his own will.

I think if anyone has a script that involves time travel, corrupt organizations, characters who come back from the dead, characters that have mommy or daddy issues. With good guys that become bad guys that become good guys and so on they should nip over to American TV quick because there's a big pay cheque waiting

Lost, 24, Prison Break, Heroes, Fringe etc

Lost is tough to keep up with. No wonder the hour before the current week's episode has the prior week's episode with explanations scrolling across the bottom to avoid confusion.

Tonight's episode put them back in 1974 and introduced new characters and crossed over timelines. I don't see how the writers keep all of it together without messing something up.

Actually, I think I can answer this. They have one or two writers that are solely responsible for ensuring that continuity and consistency is maintained, which I think you would have to with the timelines jumping around as they are.

I've got a bold theory I'd like to throw out there. Lost has always had a way of punishing those who make assumptions, but at this point in the game, I think it's fair to assume that the statue we saw was an early version of the four-toed statue remains. Speculation has already begun on what it is a statue of, but a couple things seem pretty clear -- it is holding an ankh or two, not unlike the ankh around Amy's husband's neck, and it is, at a minimum, inspired by Egyptian culture. There are those that think it is the Egyptian god Horus (god of the Sky, Sun & War), there are those that think it is the Egyptian god Anubis (god of the Dead), and there are those that think it is the Egyptian god Set (god of the Desert, Storms, Darkness, and Chaos). Anubis happens to be half dog-like creature, which might help explain the four toes, plus it just looks the most like the statue to me, so that's what I'm favoring.

Here's a thought, though -- if you're going to build a statue of a god, why not go for broke? That's my credo, anyway. Anyhoo, the most powerful god in Egyptian culture was Ra, the sun god. Incidentally, Ra eventually merged with Horus, and at least one of his forms looked strikingly like Horus.
One interesting thing about Ra is that he was known to be a bit of a shapeshifter, taking on various different forms. There's a certain black smoky character on the island that is known to do that, too.

Here's the kicker, though. Ra = RA = R.A. = Richard Alpert? Coincidence? Egyptians were obsessed with eternal life, and that's something our man Richard seems to have in spades.

In the bigger picture, between this statue, the ankhs, and the hieroglyphics, we're seeing more and more references to Egyptian culture. Also, remember that Hurley was painting a picture of the Sphinx when Locke went to visit him in last week's episode and Richard Alpert has frequently been accused of wearing eyeliner, which was actually quite popular in Egyptian times. Tunisia is not particularly far from Egypt, either. Could the ancient Egyptians have been settled by a group that exited the island in Tunisia and made their way to what we now know as Egypt?

On a completely different note, we know that Charlotte knew how to speak Korean. Anyone else wondering if Jin taught her how to speak it during their time together in DHARMA? Nice to see his English getting much better, too. I'm sure Daniel Dae Kim was getting tired of speaking in grunts for the last season or two.

                    Anyone else have any thoughts?

You paint a very thoughtful picture there Toasty. Alot of info there!! I'm an adamant follower of the show myself. It's my favourite show ever simply because there has been nothing quite thought provoking. Who would have thought it would have went this way after watching the first few episodes?? Amazing.

If Gin who was on the boat is alive them its possible Micheal could also be alive even if he was killed on the boat he could of washed up on the island and be alive again. Walt's mother was quite wealthy when see died so maybe his education was covered by her life insurance. Micheal and Walt weren't part of the Oceanic 6 because they got back to the main land by making the deal with Ben at the end of series 2. I'm guessing when they returned to the USA they either say that they weren't on the plane or they told no one they where back.

I agree. After making such a big deal about how "special" he was, having him appear on the island, etc., he has to have a bigger role in this. We'll see him again, for sure.

Mrs. Hawking said they had to recreate the original crash as close as possible.
Walt was on the plane. I think it is certain he needs to make it back. Maybe Sun will have to bring him back, that would be the journey head of her.
