Same for me! That and NE3 as well! I wouldn't trade my GU019 even if my life depended on it.

I thought about that as well but it's difficult. For me, GU19 changed the sound drastically. If you looked at the GU catalog as an indication of anything, nothing sounded like GU19 until Digweed dropped that mix. And after, everyone jumped onto that bandwagon. It pushed the genre (or maybe it was headed this way and Digweed just picked up on it sooner) into creating productions that were a lot sparser, less melody-driven, more twisted, and generally productions that were less musical, more groove-driven and better use of aural space.

I truly believe that GU019 as well as Communicate define in the best possible way the genre of Progressive House music. Excellent programming, excellent mixing, excellent track selection and the best deep 'n dark emotional vibes that have ever been delivered to my ears.

GU019 has always been a true Aural Pleasure for me.

Finally ...

Photek's Mine to give and Groove is in the air by Tijuana is the best mixing of tracks I have ever heard in my life.

agree with Communicate also... i was new to the scene and bought Communicate (and Northern Expose: Expeditions) because i heard sasha and digweed were good... this was back in early 2000. i listened to these compilations once each and put them away... was not my cup of tea. around 2 years later after progressing from Oakenfold Trance into more housey stuff, i popped them in again and those 2 compilations are Still, to this day, the best CD's I have ever heard... happy to say they will never leave my collection, ever.

Driving down the 10 heading west after a mayan show with a nice herbal buzz on listening to the opening of disc one...Wow.

i still listen to this regularly, and because of this thread and my thread re: prog trax with vocals, I popped this yesterday, and yeah, amongst the top 3 GU´s of all time.

I do admit there was a point in time that I was fairly tired of it, but that´s because everyone was ripping this off, never doing it as well as Diggers did it though.

Over here people still badmouth this style a lot, what with all the "here comes the darkness... feel the drums" shtick that followed, but to me this is one of the high points in the history of house music.

Its says it was Liquified at Mayan. They just mention Giant in the opening sleeve notes

You can't get down to 3 because GU009, GU013, GU014 and GU019 are all sublime. Which do you kick out the perfection of San Fran/Hong Kong, or the unique vibe of Ibiza/LA ?

Well, to be honest, these two :

GU019
GU013

Stand towering above all others, precisely because of their uniqueness, time defining style, and special vibe.

Then comes GU009, still a monumental comp for the way it´s built and mixed and the sheer ammount of classic tracks.

But yeah, I´d be more precise if I had said top 2, I mean the ammount of times I have played and still play LA and Ibiza goes into the thousands and thousands.

GU06 (track selection / energy- I don't even know how to describe it, the energy in CD1, those tracks keep building on each other but it never gets banging, fucking sublime, until you hear Air comes in and it releases all the tension / classics)

GU19 (madness / changed the genre)

GU14-GU13 (14-deep and chuggy, LSG - Into Deep ->Sphere - Gravi Tech /
13 - fucking smooth, MY LEXICON )

GU24 (changed the GU catalogue, Vector- Rise )

GU28-GU35 (fucker can't mix for nuts but can't fault those track selection)

GU04 (don't remember either, nostalgia!)

GU03 (my very first GU, hearing Nalin & Kane - Beachball for the first time, hanging around outside the car under the lights in a carpark )
