Just saw a Pollock exhibit that was in town a couple of weeks back. It's amazing to me that for something so seemingly random, there is clearly a difference between what he does and someone else just throwing paint on a canvas. There are plenty of artists that have used this technique over the years, but a Pollack is unmistakable.
Part of it, I think, has to do with the color palettes he used, but there's something else to it as well. Can't put my finger on it.

most people don't realize the work that he put into these paintings. You put down one color and sometimes it can take days before you are ready to put the 2nd color down. It's a lot of mental struggle to get it right. And most people when they try to copy a Pollock, they don't do that.Comment
