Does anyone have a clue about this stuff...now that I started reading about this stuff the possibility of upgrading my new laptop graphics seems more interesting to me. I have an Asus x59sr which has 4 gb ram, 2ghz dual core 2, a 320gb hard drive and ati mobility HD 3470. I was wondering if it would be possible to change my graphics card for one thats more suitable for gaming? Any thoughts?

Re: Laptop Graphics?
Laptops with ATI or NVidia normally can be swapped out but it's not worth the time, money or effort. If you want a lappie with high end graphics then you buy one with high end graphics.
Still, if you want to go ahead with it there are plenty if guides on the net if you google it. -
Re: Laptop Graphics?
As long as it's not integrated it can be swaped out. However, successfully doing that is another question...Comment

Re: Laptop Graphics?
Yeah I am looking for a forum with some thread started by someone who has tried it with the same model as I own...thats the only sure way to know which card can be used as a replacement as there are heat and power issues which are likely arise...hmmThe Idiots ARE Winning.

Re: Laptop Graphics?
Most likely, no. there are very few notebooks that actually support swappable graphics cards. The higher end Dell series (m1730), and the Alienwares and Voodoos supposedly do. Most of them are also only in 17" models, since the chassis is big enough to NOT integrate it onto the motherboard.
If it has a 3470 on it, it is most likely built onto the motherboard.

Also, it usually just will work out cheaper if you sell your current laptop, and then buy a whole new laptop with a better chip.
Good luck.Comment
