    Vegetarian Alliance

This year will be my seventh year being a Vegetarian so I'm just wondering here on Ms who are on that same path and also would like share some experiences pointing out seven points , also if anybody wants to ask any question feel free to do it.

1st Why did you do it ?

Moral issues and also I was feeling that sometimes at least once every 2 weeks after I was eating meat (chicken , fish , pork etc) I would feel terribly sick, headache and nauseous ... very strange phenomenon .

2nd How did it happen ?

I have a family that's really into Yoga and New age stuff so most of them are vegetarian , they gave me the choice at a very young age to choose what I wanted to eat . So after many years of being a meat lover, I went to Japan stayed there for five months ate every possible animal on earth you could imagine and then after that ,I decided this is it . I must say the change was gradual nothing radical meaning that during the week I would have 2 days of pure veggies and 5 days of meat , this happened for 6 months reducing the meat and increasing the veggies days.

3rd How did you feel afterwards?

After 3 months I started to notice that my way of thinking felt lighter , way more energetic , my studying capacity increased by 40 % meaning that I would retain more info than before, everything improved as well as my sexual performance

    4th any regrets?

Maybe oncel, I recall one day after a year of being Vegetarian , I was walking by a seafood restaurant and they were frying calamari and felt the slight urge to have some, but didn't that was the only time.

    5th Peoples reaction

I see that a lot of people get pissed off or uncomfortable when they sit down at a table next to a vegetarian lol . it always happens and i got used to it , at the beggining I would let it get to me , but now I just laugh.

    6th Personal thought

Not everybody is built to be a vegetarian many people feel or get really weak , also if you want to do it make sure you have a balanced diet that is : minerals , proteins , oligo elements , vitamins etc

    7th Future

I have never felt so sure about anything like this matter in my life

        Re: Vegetarian Alliance

I've been a vegetarian for 23 years now. I became one unexpectedly after watching Apocalype Now. There's a scene of a bull sacrifice that for some reason really got drilled into my head. Everytime I ate meat after that the scene would play over and over in my mind. Drove me nuts and also to become a vegetarian. At first I wasn't aware how much I needed to know my shit about food and then I started paying attention and learning as much as I could. Heck, I'm still learning.
I do get drilled alot by people and you're right Haziel, quite alot of people do feel the need to dig right in and start the shit right away. I've learned to deal with it the same way you have. Laugh and ignore.
I suspect I won't go back to eating meat again in this life and so far I have no desire what so ever to eat it. Serious..no cravings at all.
Awww...I didn't mean A holes, as in "A holes"...I meant it like, as in, my friends....

I'm not a vegetarian, but i respect that lifestyle. Not only is it a statement in opposition of the industrial food system that is responsible for health epidemics worldwide, but its also takes alot of discipline.

I for one eat alot of veg. and due to a super fast metabolism I would never gain any weight unless i ate meats, especially beef, believe it or not, cause in northern europe during the winter thats what was used to survive. I do find that my general health isn't as good as when i don't eat fruits and vegetables so their intake is a key daily measure to be as healthy as possible.

do vegans drink beer? i thought hops and barley were vegetables.

since meat is decaying matter, i've been weening my way towards a vegetarian diet over the years.

Yes i remember that scene is a strong one indeed , at the moment was probably too much to take, now there are the PETA videos which are an even more stronger reality.

The funny thing about those people is that after they delivered all their poison on you , they say "u know something i'm really kindda of a vegetarian 2 " lol..... I think the majority of times those are people , that deep inside would like to have your lifestyle of eating but meat is soooo addictive that they can't do it , i'ts a way of expressing their jealousy IMO.

                        Re: Vegetarian Alliance

I eat meat for a number of reasons. Firstly I like it., secondly and more importantly I want to have a balanced diet and the extra trouble that you have to go to make sure you do with a vegetarian diet is just too time consuming . As Chanty said you have to learn a lot about food. I'm just not that committed in this area.

If there is an issue for me it isn't the health one, it is the issue of killing animals. I tend to go free range with everything possible. So at least they live well!

Btw . Haziel I don't think people are jealous of your eating choices . In fact this sounds as though you are doing what you accuse other people of.

The funny thing about those people is that after they delivered all their poison on you , they say "u know something i'm really kindda of a vegetarian 2 " lol..... No one here has criticised your choices

                          Re: Vegetarian Alliance

not a vegetarian, but I do limit my meat intake and put a lot of weight on the veggies and other stuff. Really don't touch fast food, snack food, standard processed food...actually, I rarely shop in "normal" grocery stores. I'm a big free range/organic buyer. Also quite a few supplements.

I personally don't have an ethical issue with eating animals. Animals eat other animals. Except for plants, for the most part every living thing on this planet feeds off of other (formerly) living things. It maybe sucks, but that's the food chain for ya. And plants are also living things; just because it doesn't have eyeballs and can't make a sound doesn't mean it isn't living and doesn't have an uncomfortable response to being killed.

I do have an ethical issue with the mistreatment of living animals in captivity.

But in the end, I respect that people can do as they choose to do.

In July 2008 The Associated Press reported that Merriam-Webster Inc. added more than 100 new entries to its new edition of the Collegiate Dictionary; one of those words was pescetarian.

The definition of the word according to that dictionary is: "vegetarian whose diet includes fish."

                              --

It began as 1 month detox, but I have not had meat with the exception of fish for 1.2 yrs. As I was detoxing from meat I began to notice more energy, an easier time at waking up in the morning and my overall digestion improved. I also noticed more stamina when running/working out. Lastly, my associate at work was a vegetarian as well as several of my cousins and others I knew personally and they all have very high IQ's and are influential in my life.

Also my family owns large dairy farms, so I have grown up around the dairy and beef industry and know it much more intimately than most people.

At first I dropped a ton of weight and there was a pretty big learning curve involved in terms of completely reorganizing my understanding of a balanced diet.

I have no regrets whatsoever, there have been too many benefits and I feel much more in control of my appetite.

Initially people judge me when I tell them I don't eat meat but once they realize that it has been a lifestyle change that I am committed to, the people who care about respect my decision.

My final thought about this subject is that I found it freeing to stop my dependancy on meat and poultry. It was also pretty interesting how my perception of meat changed so much after I had stopped eating it for several months...it began to look disgusting and strange.

I actually just began ordering organic fruit and vegetables that will be delivered to my front door weekly, I'm pretty stoked about that.

It was fun while it lasted...
