Impotence is the natural human reaction to something like this didi because with the best will in the world, what could you do against such a force of nature? - i am sitting at home looking at the fire i lit to keep me warm and that makes me feel kind of guilty for being able to control it. Not many years ago people were stood on beaches in thailand and indonesia thinking the sea was beautiful, then it rose up and killed them in their thousands - i don't think we can comprehend such things. The fact that these fires were man made is difficult to come to terms with for sure but we're only humans at the end of the day and things like this are truly frightening - i hope and pray it stops soon but who am i praying to? If there was a god this would end

this is terrible!! i was watching the news on a greek channel this morning and the most important topic was about Australia and the devastating fires... i know how this is coz we in Greece had the same problem the summer of 2007.. hang in there guys and try to be as safe as possible!

whoever started this and destroys human lives and properties needs hanging!!!

A LOT of the fires were started by people!! The one that wiped out Maryville for instance , which is why Maryville is cordened off as a huge crime scene.

Expectations are that the death toll will reach 300 and there are still fires out of control and threatening towns.

of course not man, im not talking about fires that were ignited from the combination of the dryness, the hot sun and wind, but the ones which were started from irresponsible people who they mite threw a cig or a lighted match in an area full of "kindling" materials, or people who made a small fire to burn some rubbish and with the strong winds the small fire got out of control, or even worse people who did it on purpose so they can turn woods into residential areas with new houses being built...

^^^I think they were arrested for looting . But apparently they are close to the person who started some of the worst fires. Most are under control at the moment , there are two big ones that are close together, if they join it will affect our water gas and electricity. Hopefully because the weather is better this won't happen .

Cohen has been touring Australia with Paul Kelly.

Tour promoter Frontier Touring yesterday said $200,000 would be donated on behalf of Cohen, Kelly and Frontier to aid victims of the Victorian bushfires.
