the best for me was the 90s but that's more to do with age than anything else - imo the time when you're say 18-25 is gonna be the best ...
the 60s probably changed things more than any other decade and paved the way for a lot of what was to come
the 00's or now are without doubt the shittest in terms of popular music but that, in turn has a healthy effect on the more underground side of things i reckon

I think the 60's was the most influential by far, but for my lifetime, the 90's were the best so far.

If it wasn't for Bill Haley, Elvis etc etc - the rest wouldn't have happened. However if 1920's blues hadn't happened then rock n roll wouldn't have been born. So I'd have to say it was the first time Neanderthal man kept beat with a bone and pulled tight animal skin! Now THAT was a decade

I still routinely listen to music from the 90's when I'm not listening to EDM, so I've got to go with the 90's.

Wall of sound def changed things in the 60's and shaped how music sounds even to this day.

"Songwriter Jeff Barry, who worked extensively with Spector, described the Wall of Sound as:
basically a formula. You're going to have four or five guitars line up, gut-string guitars, and they're going to follow the chords...two basses in fifths, with the same type of line, and strings...six or seven horns, adding the little punches…formula percussion instruments — the little bells, the shakers, the tambourines. Phil used his own formula for echo, and some overtone arrangements with the strings. But by and large there was a formula arrangement."

Yeah definitely lil' - but the music that you live through has to be the best no?
look at stuff like motown and all the northern soul - stood the test of time and still gets people moving to this day - great music no doubt but i think it means less to me as i wasn't around when it was breaking . Wish i had been sometimes - then again the 60s look pretty scary - check this

^^True. A good example would have to be "All along the watch tower" by Hendrix.

Sure, it's good song, but I can't relate to it, because it was before my time and I wasn't fighting in a war in Vietnam.
