    Porn and Politics

Check out this recent study tracking porn purchases by region.

How funny is it that the most socially conservative states -- like Utah, Alaska, and Mississippi -- are also the biggest purveyors of porn? Keep up the good work, Focus on the Family!!!!

so so true. religious/political austerities in turn spawn the most festering lusts (lmao at catholic clerics for one) for the social conservatives. they should not have repressed their desire that hadn't been naturally outlived. lol

Are you friggin serious T-man? Look at those fucking states dude. There is NOTHING to do there. Of course there's going to be more porn purchases in those states. Jesus dude.

It's like saying, "there's more cornfields in conservative states."

How funny? Did you really find that funny?

Uber-repressed Utah being the most prolific purveyor of porn? Yeah, I do find that pretty funny, as a matter of fact. Not funny like a pie in the face or a well-told joke, but definitely funny nevertheless. What can I say...

Wait a second. Are you asserting that social conservatives are buying the porn up? Or, mayyyyybe, just maaayyyyybe, it's the moderates and liberals and don't-give-a-fuck conservatives who are buying it up?

If you're suggesting that mormons are buying up porn, by all means, point it out in the study.

There are tons of examples of holier-than-thou social conservatives preaching one thing and doing something entirely different. See, e.g., Ted Haggard, Mark Foley, Larry Craig, David Vitter, Bob Allen -- I could go on and on. This should not be news to anyone. Do I think there are mormons are buying up porn? You better believe it.

Can I give you data on specific mormons buying up specific porn? Of course not, and you know that, which gives your argument a strawman-esque feel to it. The whole point of the study, though, was to compare porn intake and political ideology to see if they match what you would expect. They do not. There's no way that Utah hits #1 if the only people buying up porn are the handful of godless liberals that have for whatever reason chosen to live there. It's ridiculous to even suggest that.

You can't have manslaughter without laughter.

"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl."

The study speaks for itself. If you read it and conclude that it must mean that ultra-conservative states consume more porn per capita on account of the liberals that live there being REALLY into porn, I guess that's your prerogative. For the record, that position is also not found in the study, but hey, far be it for me to dissuade you.

Seriously. I don't remember 88Mariner being this much of a prick when disagreeing with someone.
