I won't be back until next Tuesday, so if Get Carter is the correct answer, I would appreciate of someone else posts a new cap for me

Admittedly I only tried for a brief moment, but that trackball didn't seem to really work for me, so I see this as a Good Thing. Touchscreen FTW!

saw this the other day and could foresee blackberry adopting the touchscreen for replacement of the trackball. quite curious to see this bad boy.

Tactile qwerty keyboard >> my fat fingers on a touchscreen keyboard. IMO

storm is not 3G. big reds (verizon) network cannot support true 3G. they operate off evdo which data speeds are very quick, however the true test to "3G" is simultaneous voice & data. (making a phone call and surfing web, sending email, downloading games music etc. while continuing with phone call.)

storm does have a qwerty keypad but is touchscreen therefore not physical. really like the storm although i have read numerous poor reviews. i would defo like to test one.

I read somewhere that verizon was infusing 3G technology into the EVDO network. I couldn't believe it and don't know if it's already in place, but it was in the works.

                      ^^
                      specs from RIMs website:

                      UMTS/HSPA: 2100 MHz
North America: 850 MHz GSMŪ/GPRS networks (not capable of 3G)
North America: 1900MHz GSM/GPRS networks (capable of 3G but not used in U.S. on CDMA network)
                      Europe/Asia Pacific: 1800MHz GSM/GPRS networks
                      Europe/Asia Pacific: 900MHz GSM/GPRS networks
Dual-Band: 800/1900 MHz CDMA/Ev-DO networks (This is what you will use primarily off Verizons network in the U.S......not 3G.)

The CDMA/Ev-DO network is primarily what you will pull with the Storm in the U.S. as Verizons network isn't capable of using GSM technology in the U.S. The phone itself is capable as it is deemed a multinetwork capable device, however Verizon relies heavily on it's non-GSM network therefore your 850MHz and 1900MHz GSM love in the U.S. is pointless on their network as the storm will never use it. The GSM side of this phone was only incorporated as the target customers for the Storm would typically be people that may travel outside of the U.S. which Verizon has no roaming partners on a WCDMA network as the U.S. is the only country still using it.

To differentiate UMTS from competing network technologies, UMTS is sometimes marketed as 3GSM, emphasizing the combination of the 3G nature of the technology and the GSM standard which it was designed to succeed.

Verizon has been in the works to run 3G off their network for years, Ev-DO rev.A was a good start (great data speeds), however; they have yet develop their network to where customers may utilize simultaneous voice and data. (which is true 3G)

in essence.....is the storm 3G? Yes, but you will never be able to use it in that sense in North America.
