Eelke Kleijn (http://www.eelkekleijn.nl/) was born on the 11th of June, 1983 in Rotterdam. He got interested in music at the age of 13, at which he started to play keyboard and piano. He got himself a part-time job at a music store which was his first introduction to studio gear and synthesizers. Needless to say he got hooked instantly.
Soon thereafter Eelke bought his first records. After practising on a cheap turntable for about a year, he got himself a set of Technics SL 1200 MKII's. From then on his technique improved and his style began to take form. Nowadays Eelke plays a wide range of sounds, which all have one thing in common; 'Dark, sexy grooves and a solid drive', as he refers to it himself.
From 2001 onwards Eelke began to invest in his home studio. He had been producing in the years before but it took a more serious direction from that point. When he distributed some of his music on demo tapes, Dutch party organiser Extrema got interested immediately. This resulted in an exclusive ambient track, which was used at the 'Humanite 2002' event and a remix for Matthew Dekay's 'If I Could Fly'. This last track was also featured on the Deep Records Promotion CD.
In 2003 Eelke had his first solo release on Segment Records with his '4.5 Billion Years / Knowledge Base' EP. Although this was a 250-copy limited pressing, it reached quite a few high players including John Digweed, Seb Fontaine and Perry O'Neil. The follow-up to this success has already been spotted: 'Deeper Depths'; a tough progressive track combining melodic elements with driving percussion and beats. It is already gaining support from Segment label manager Matt Black, Kazell and of course Eelke himself.
Besides his progressive productions and sets, Eelke is also throwing high eyes as a trance producer. Together with his partner in crime Rutger van Bostelen they are known as 'M.I.D.O.R. & Six4Eight'. Since the beginning of 2003, they have released and remixed numerous tracks. Their EP '7th Heaven / Cloud City' made its way onto the ID&T Sensation White CD and the remixes they did for Talla 2XLC and Neo & Farina got major support from all big players including Tiesto, Paul van Dyk and Armin van Buuren.
Not bad at all keeping in mind that he only has 20 years of age behind him. Keep an eye on this youngster!
