So I live in the lower level of a house and above me I have two male housemates and the one guys gf basically lives here too. We all rent from my one of my good friends and his gf (who now live 2 doors away) and for the most part we get along just great....the only problem is them smoking in the house.
We all signed lease agreements stipulating that we would not smoke in the house, but they seem to have forgotten or just don't give a crap. Normally I wouldn't care what other people do, but the problem with them smoking is that it comes down into my apartment through the furnace vents (one is directly above my head on the couch where I am sitting now, and another directly above my bed where I sleep).
I hate the smell more than anything and it drives me insane! There is nothing worse then sitting on the couch or laying in bed having wafts of cigarette smoke coming down on you or when you are gone for a day over the weekend to come home and your entire apartment reeks of smoke.....one time there was even a haze when I came in the door as they were having a party upstairs and a ton of people were smoking inside.
When I first moved in I complained to my friend about them smoking and he went over and advised them if they didn't stop, they would have to find somewhere else to live as this wasn't the first time he had warned them. It worked for a bit, but then the started again. A couple months ago I finally snapped and asked them to stop and they told me they were only doing it in the winter when it was really cold, but they would stop doing it....well its nice out now and they haven't stopped (surprise surprise).
I just don't know what to do at this point. I love where I live as its a great apartment, my best friend is across the street, and it is also really close to where I work, but I am fed up as I pay a lot of money to live somewhere that is smoke free and isn't. I have complained to them and they don't listen or care, so its seems to leave only one other option, but I don't want to be responsible for getting them kicked out either.

You are not responsible they are.!! If they are too infantile to comprehend adult behaviour they should go, definitely not you !! You actually owe it to your good friend to tell them . Cigarette smoke does an amazing amount of damage. Not to mention the burns that happen as well !
