Re: how much have you wrecked your ears?

for a minute I was all like OHH SHIT I can't even hear 8k!

then I realized the file wasn't loading on my media player

With headphones, I can get up to about 20k...at 21k I reeeally struggle with the volume up and I think I can sort of make out something. At 22k I can't hear a damn thing.

Can't try it without headphones since I'm in the office

Best I could do is 15 kHz with headphones and I'm 24

I really need to watch it. I listen to an iPod with earbuds all day at work too. You guys think I should stop or maybe use different headphones?

Imagine depends on what kind of earbuds you are using, I have a nice pair of Bose which fit really well so I don't have to crank up the volume to much.

try going a few days without the headphones if you can and then try the hearing test again imo.

It was fun while it lasted...

I don't think we should take this test too seriously as it's not an "official hearing test". We're all listening on different devices aswell.
I can't hear anything above 15kHz without headphones and couldn't hear much with my skullcandy earbuds, and I heard most with my AKG's.

i think the better question is, how will you continue wrecking your hearing?

you all know where i stand on this. for the amount of loud music we listen to, custom earplugs seem like a trivial cost compared to what might be lost.

Yeah no kidding! Especially considering that many of us I'm sure have dumped thousands of dollars into this music...

Re: how much have you wrecked your ears?

I couldn't hear 15khz or higher, so I guess I'm average, based on age. I had a brief optimistic moment when I considered the possibility my speakers couldn't play sounds that high, then I checked the specs and they are rated for 20khz. So it's my ears.

I did have a real ear test about two years ago, which confirmed I am average. No real problems.

It seems logical to me that the key thing you should consider is not what kind of headphones you use but the volume at which you regularly listen to the music. I often listen to an iPod at work with earbuds, too, but I keep the volume reasonably low.

I can hear till 22 , however I noticed I could only hear 22 on the left ear not on the right which makes sense , because when I mix I always listen to the right side of the headphones when the blend comes and also at clubs you'll find me at the right side of the club with the speaker quite close to my right side .

there has def been some damage.

has all this come about because of the mosquito ??

ingenious to say the least. Schools are using it to get kids out of the hallways; and kids are using it to have the phones ring so the teacher cant hear it! classic.

I cant hear anything over 14ks but as I'm 77 years old (according to R+S) then its no wonder is it!

so before everyone freaks out - as I was!!

I just spoke to my lovely audiologist.

Human Speech sounds only go up to 8khz - everything above that frequency is just environmental sounds/noises.
If you were to walk into an audiologist they would only test up to 8khz - so you would never find out if you have lost that really high range.

the only time they test upward is if you have significant tinitus and then they would use special equipment.

So bottom line is if you can hear the 8khz tone - your hearing is absolutely fine and within normal range.
