Re: Where the wild things are

oh nice. no that's not it. its a really strange book bro, and the illistrations are really really good. i can vaguely remember but only a few from the book, some can be described like this:

                - a train (?) descending into the ocean

                - a nun in a chair floating way up high in a cathedral (i remember part of the riddle to this one: "and the fifth ended up in france(?)")

                - a house taking off

                - a kid skipping a rock on water, and it skipping back on a certain number. ( "...and on the ... it skipped back")

k i found it after a little google work. should have thought of that sooner. so cool.

it's "The Mysteries of Harris Burdick" by Chris Van Allsburg.

here are some of the illustrations:

"Chris Van Allsburg came across the pictures of Harris Burdick through a friend, Peter Wenders. Apparently, Burdick presented the pictures with their titles and captions to Wenders in hopes that Wenders would be interested in purchasing the stories that accompanied the illustrations. Wenders was intrigued by the pictures and asked Burdick to submit the corresponding stories the next day. However, Wenders never heard from Harris Burdick again, so the "true" stories behind the pictures were never revealed." www.

Re: Where the wild things are

holy shit lucky, i was going to say you must be talking about a chris van allsburg book before you figured it out! i am not joking. too bad i saw this thread too late. i prob would have freaked yout out. just from your first brief description made me think of this guy, i remember coming across this guys work when i was as kid and seeing his books, his illustrations are really gorgeous, but have a very creepy/otherworldy look to them. i really love the black and white stuff, so amazing. this is funny someone else has bought this up, these had a big influence on me when i was a kid.
never got into where the wild things are much, but the preview looks pretty fun.
i'm looking forward to cloudy with a chance of meatballs more.

                        fav van allsburg books:

Spike Jonez had a working version ready about a year ago ready to go into the theatres, but junked it when kids at the test screening got scared through most of the movie. He went back to the drawing board and re-shot most of it.

I want to see what the scary version of this looked like.
