    Sultan eh.. I wouldn't mind that at all.

    I was always under the impression that the NuBreed series was more tribal influenced ... but I suppose thats not the case anymore...

        ^THAT aka "leading somewhere" is very subjective imo...


        the question is, why does or doesn't a mix lead you on a journey? that is what's interesting to read when someone comments about an artists work.

        It was fun while it lasted...

              Nubreed hasn't been tribal for a while ... in fact I thought Lawler was the only tribal sounding DJ on Nubreed. The Nubreed series was meant to showcase 'upcoming' DJs wasn't it?

              To me a typical journey has a start and end point, which probably sounds like the obvious. Typically indicated by shifts in tempo and mood, a mix usually leads up to a high point somewhere around the 3/4 mark or 4/5 mark. That seems like a pretty basic structure to a journey for a 1 or 2 CD mix.

              As a mix gets longer, the DJ has more opportunities to bring you on a meandering journey, detours. There'll be troughs and peaks in the mix, and the whole set might be broken up into mini-sets that carry on the same theme or sound before moving on. I think Digweed, Howells (since his Kiss set is fresh in my mind) and Folder are good at that, they have this ability to get you into a deep groove and then take a turn and drop the floor from under you with some melodies or massive tune. On top of that Digweed can build up a set to a vortex and then diffuse that while maintaining that energy and groove: It's like the surface has changed but the undercurrent's the same.

              Then you have DJs like Burridge or Garnier who' can pretty much mix up anything and you don't think of it as a journey while dancing your ass off to those eclectic sounds, but at the end of the set you stand there on the dancefloor, the whole night comes back to you and go, whoa wtf have I been dancing to, I started out at point A and ended up at point G.

                Good call on Danny Howells. For me the 24/7 night-disc is an all-time-fav.
                That said: laying on a pool in Italy on hollidays, the day-disc has always been played...
                Both CDs offer a great journey, but on different roads.

                        Ok, just finished listening to disk 1 on headphones and I'm loving it ... right from track one which is superb and then half way into the album the tracks are stunners... only track I'm not feeling so much is Push Push.. not really big into male vocals... I would give this disk 5 stars if it wasn't for that one.

                        Now onto disk 2....lets give it a listen...

                          I dunno mate, there're some nice tracks on the mix but on the whole I struggle to finish it. I'm relistening to CD1 and my attention began to drift after the 40 min mark. At the 52 min mark, I can't even remember what the previous tracks were or where the mix originated. Nice tracks mixed together overall the sound is disjointed, it's almost like listening to the tracks on their own (1-3, 4-5, 6, 7, 8-9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17). Just my opinion

                            i think these cds are great. best thing from GU since howells miami. tunes are deep, some are moody and trancey, some are kinda housey and some are headfuck. great stuff
