    + More TBA

Audioriver 2009 – first names announced

Audioriver is back for the forth time, and it‘s undoubtedly bigger and better than ever. This year's edition will not only showcase a new formula and an abundance of accompanying events over three days, but also some of the biggest and hottest names in underground dance music, including Moderat (Modeselektor + Apparat + Pfadfinderei), Dirtyphonics, Daniel Bell, Radio Slave, Ewan Pearson, Efdemin, The Mole, Mistabishi and none other than the techno uberguru, Richie Hawtin.

First things first: 2008 was the last time the event was solely dedicated to electronic dance music. “After booking almost entirely non-electronic bands like UNKLE and Mountain of One last year, we showed that our ambitions go far beyond what is played in clubs the world over. Basically, what we want to do in the future is stage pretty much everything that is of high quality in alternative music, regardless of whether it is played on synths, laptops or guitars and from now on our tagline will be ‘independent worlds festival‘“, says Audioriver spokesperson, Lukasz Napora.

Between the 7th and 9th of August the primary focus of the festival will remain to be music, but this time around the festival's organizers have done their utmost to provide punters with a plethora of unique and very interesting supporting events, starting with the return of the not so long ago abandoned Festival Cinema, through to street performances and theaters, ending with an additional stage located in the Old Market Square which will showcase young musical talent.

As far as the headliners go, there really isn't much to say besides very bluntly stating that most of the names pretty much speak for themselves. Starting with the abundance of live acts this year represented by Moderat, who will be dropping their much anticipated album in April on Bpitch Control, Canadian techno legend Daniel Bell (the best live act of 2008 according to Resident Advisor), and one of Mathew Jonson's most promising protegees, Colin de la Plante aka The Mole.

Drum n bass heads will more than likely be very pleased to find out that Dirtyphonics will be bringing their all analogue, highly explosive live act straight from Paris to Plock this year. News of one of Hospital Records' biggest names at the moment, Mistabishi, will probably turn a few heads, too.

Finally, some of the world's most highly rated DJs will grace the picturesque beach this year with their presence. And music, of course. One of techno's most influential artists and biggest innovators Richie Hawtin will be headlining the event this year, along with his Turkish “visuals sidekick” Demirel. The extremely popular Matt Edwards aka Radio Slave aka Matthew E aka Rekid aka Quiet Village (together with Joel Martin) will also make an appearance. As will Efdemin, who in 2007 dropped his seminal debut album, only to one year later release one of 2008's best compilations. Last but not least, the mighty Ewan Pearson, known for his brilliant remixes and ecclectic DJ sets will too be in Plock in August of this year.

As for tickets, they still remain cheap:
April 1st – May 11th: around 9 Euro (two day ticket)
May 12th – July 31st: around 15 Euro (two day ticket)
From August 1st: around 21 Euro (two day ticket) and 11 Euro (one day ticket)

So, stay tuned for more info, because Audioriver’s new website and more names are coming very soon.

Polish support, Festival Cinema and Theater Itinerary – coming soon

    Info:
Audioriver is an international three day festival which promotes only what is best in the world of alternative music with a strong emphasis on electronica. Thus far, three editions – 2006, 2007 and 2008 - have taken place on the picturesque beach on the Vistula River in Plock.

Since its inception, more than 80 thousand people have come to the event. Audioriver is by many considered to be Poland's premier summertime electronic music festival, and this status is confirmed by the festival's place in Resident Advisor's Top Ten August Festivals poll in the last three years.

As far as the main course is concerned, let’s just say that some will be wishing they could be in three places at once. None other than the legendary DJ Hell, by many considered to be the Andy Warhol of electronic music, will be ruling the main stage this time around. His seminal, two disc album ‘Teufelswerk’ released earlier this year is by many media outlets (including The Guardian) considered to be one of the finest efforts at a long player in recent memory. Needless to say, then, that August 7th will be the perfect occasion to see Geier live and in person.

The Main Stage will also be where Moderat, the brilliant project from Modeselektor and Apparat, will be performing along with their visuals specialists Pfadfinderei. The trio’s recently released album is a true milestone in the progress of electronic music, so there will be little excuse for passing up this chance. The main stage will also be home to real, full length concerts from the very energetic Englishman from The Whip and Zoot Woman, the latter of which is Jacques Lu Cont’s (the guy behind Madonna’s ‘Confessions On a Dancefloor’) band.

Moving on, the Circus Tent it will be business as usual with a line up that promises to bring to the table only what is best in upfront, cutting edge underground dance music. The biggest name on the bill is undoubtedly techno don Richie Hawtin, but he won’t be the only techno legend in attendance. Daniel Bell made an exception for Audioriver and is slated to play live. Few and far between, his performances last year won him first place in Resident Advisor’s Best Live Act poll for 2008. Apart from the aforementioned stalwarts, Gui Boratto and James Holden, by many considered to be melodic techno geniuses, will also be playing at the festival.

What’s more, this year, not two, but three areas will be staging a plethora of international talent. On Friday, drum and bass and dubstep will be king in the new hybrid tent, with acts such as Chase & Status and Caspa & Rusko confirmed to perform. Saturday, on the other hand, will be about the less dancey regions of eletronica when the ambient master Ulrich Schnauss and IDM wizards Telefon Tel Aviv take over the tent.

But that’s just a sample portion of the line up. Alix Perez & Commix feat. MC Stamina, Crazy P live, Dirtyphonics, Radio Slave, Ewan Pearson, Seba & Paradox feat. Robert Manos, Joris Voorn, MyMy live, Efdemin, Mistabishi and The Mole are among the international acts booked to play at Audioriver 2009. Oh, and the organizers have yet to announce the Polish acts and festival cinema and street theaters’ itineraries.

      Re: Audioriver 2009

Polish festival Among The Best In The World!

Audioriver has been included in Resident Advisor‘s Top 10 August festivals listing for the fourth time in a row. RA is one of the most important and influential international websites dedicated to the electronic dance music scene, which makes us all the more happy and proud that the good people at the media outlet have decided that our event deserves fourth place, in theory, making it a better party proposal than such giants as SonneMondSterne and South West Four / Get Loaded In The Park. Such a prestigious recommendation is just another reason to visit the beautiful beach on the Vistula River on 7-9th August 2009.

Here’s what the editors had to say about the festival:
'Audioriver's unique selling points are numerous: A picturesque river-side location, a small(ish) but lovingly crafted line-up, and perhaps the most affordable entrance fee of any festival in Europe (just €9 - €21). What's more, a raft of additional features have been pencilled in for 2009 including an extra stage, the return of the Festival Cinema, street performances and a showcase of young musical talent taking place in the Old Market Square. Assuming the headlining role is Richie Hawtin whose Saturday performance in the Circus Tent will be supported by James Holden, Ewan Pearson, Gui Boratto and The Mole. Backtracking a day, Friday's festivities takes in live performances from The Whip, Daniel Bell and My My, while Radio Slave, Joris Voorn, Efdemin and Caspa & Rusko do decks. Credit crunch biting, but fancy some festival fun? Get your a$$ to Plock.'

Check out the whole article: http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1071

Full info and line up including Moderat, Ulrich Schnauss, Zoot Woman, Jacek Sienkiewicz and many, many more is available on www.audioriver.pl . The site in English is now online.

      See you in Plock!

            Audioriver 2009 Summary

The forth edition of Audioriver came to a close this past Sunday. A record, since the event became a ticketed affair, 12 thousand punters from all parts of Poland came out on each of the days.

It's difficult to say which performances were the best, as the proceeding spanned across four stages, but after a quick look at Internet message boards, it looks as if Moderat, Richie Hawtin, Dirtyphonics, Dub FX, DJ Hell and James Holden, who rocked the crowed with a four hour set in the wee morning hours, made the biggest impression on the Audioriver faithful. Holden played for an hour and a half longer than we was slated to, only to go on to give a couple of encores, and ended the beach portion of the festival in style. Feedback regarding the festival is very positive, although there were a few hitches along the way, the biggest of which was the lack of free space on the tent field, despite the fact that it was twice the size compared to last year. This means that for next year we will have to find a bigger location for the tent field, as the beach itself can't accommodate such a high number of tents. And we can't simply make the festival grounds smaller, because this year's edition took up the whole of the beach's capacity”, says Audioriver spokesperson, Lukasz Napora.

And what did the headliners have to say about the festival? On Sunday, Richie Hawtin wrote on Twitter: “thank you POLAND... hope it doesn‘t take another 5 years to come back...”. The guys from Moderat, on the other hand, said that they had never played on such a good soundsystem, while Lee Jones, one half of MyMy, was very surprised by the reaction the duo received from Polish clubbers. “They're amazing! They go crazy every 16th bar!”, said Jones.

Audioriver's newest attractions, such as the Festival Cinema and Street Theaters, were also very well received, but the biggest success of all in this respect was without a doubt the Muzzo Stage, which during the daytime was surrounded by punters dancing in the Old Market Square and... in the fountain to be found in the Square. Several dozen people dancing in water up to their knees was definitely a priceless scene.

Unfortunately, for the first time in the festival's history not all the artists that were booked performed. On the Friday, the organizers received a message from Rusko's manager stating that the artist missed a total of three flights! The situation surrounding the absence of Chase, on the other hand, was a little more complicated. “A few weeks after we booked the duo, it turned out that only Status will be able to come to Plock, as on the same day the group had another engagement in London. We wanted very much for the performance to take place, so we refrained from renouncing the contract. However, it must be clearly stated that the contract included a paragraph which required the show to be promoted as a performance from both members of Chase & Status, which is why we did not inform the general public about this state of affairs beforehand. Needless to say, we are not fully content with such a turn of events, even though Status together with MC Rage literally tore the roof off”, says Lukasz Napora. Also, Polish DJ Poziom-X didn't manage to play his morning set, which was supposed to commence at 6:30 on the Sunday. However, the reason for this was James Holden's out of this world performance, which, as mentioned already, took up an hour and a half more than was originally planned. “We would like to thank Marcin for understanding the situation and giving his time to James. In short, the Sunday morning in question was without a doubt one of the festival's best moments”, adds Napora.

All in all, we would like to thank everyone who came out to Audioriver this year. Thanks to such a turn out, we are motivated to more with each edition, as such high numbers confirm that there is a place for quality underground dance music in our scene. Sure, not everything was perfect, but be hope that punters appreciate our efforts to make each edition even better than the last”.
