I wasn't aware of ANY sexual discrimination in the dj world...do you get less bookings because you're a girl? I would have thought not.

Anyway its just my personal opinion on the matter. I dislike pretty much all societal classifications and divissions. This is just another one on the list.
        hi

i actually agree with your other comment, about girls putting themselves into their own box with the femme djs, djane stuff.. but to say we aren't categorized because of our sex is a bit silly. we are defo looked at more than male djs in a sense of marketing. i can see the point though and i don't have a problem if girls or managements need to use thier sexuality to market themselves. maybe thats all they got, or maybe thats a quick and sure fire way to get attention in this sex crazed world. we all have our own paths on where we go and we all make it how we want. i would think every girl has control over her own carreer and how people view her publically, as does each male.

imo, there are good or bad djs, good or bad producers, good or bad cooks, good or bad teachers, good or bad politicians, good or bad people.. sex really shouldn't matter, but it does in this world until we all decide to be different.

I agree. Plenty of talented, hard-working women out there on the dj circuit who should get their respect.

          But here's the irony:

Look through some of those pictures on those myspace pages of some DJs who poster up their seductive poses in lingerie, in bikinis, or topless...

then ask yourself: "who is really objectifying whom here?"

^^ yeah thats kinda of what I mean. Women are at least partialy creating the whole distinction themselves. Its a much deeper issue than dj-ing though.

It's definitely deeper. We all say we don't want to be "objectified", yet then we work very hard to look attractive when going out to the club on Friday night. The truth is, most of us crave some form of objectification in our lives.

                Re: Femme on decks

Fact: Most female djs that are out there and have a name , are more than fairly attractive.

Magda , Ellen Allien , Dinky, Miss nine, Anja schneider , Sarah Main , etc.

For a female dj IMO it helps a lot in the beginning of their career being attractive , you are probably going to be more prone on meeting people and having a huge network of friends , and conections of course is way more important than talent in the beginning , this would be a perfect example of that old saying "is who you know" .

Then after that of course you need to have talent. But being attractive kinda of narrows it down in the dj femme world.

This kind of picture makes me doubt on her Dj´ing skills.. Maybe I´m wrong but don´t see why she must looks like a porn star Dj... I never see a male Dj showing his abs or something like that as a promotion...

BTW, what a beautifull girl she is...

Well said Chloe and yes pillow humping does rule. Juan that's Nikki Belucci and she's a former porn star who now markets herself as a topless DJ. plays some crappy cheezy house with no substance imo.

again... what do you expect people to talk about when quite a number of them seem to market themselves with very explicit, sexy photos of themselves (see in thread above)? IMO, those women can't have it both ways; they can't portray themselves to the public in that way and then also be offended when guys objectify them and oggle their goods.
