    Re: Femme on decks

I would say the majority of female Djs don't market themselves this way. I would say there are in fact very few,but they certainly monopolise the discussions ! Every single discussion everywhere does turn into a discussion about their looks. Perhaps you have it the wrong a way around, some women have decided to capitalize on this fact . Usually the women that do this aren't trying to have it both ways, they are happy to use their looks. The women who DON'T do it shouldn't be branded by those who do. Just once it would be so nice to see a discussion about a female Dj that didn't get degenerate into anything more than her musical abilities

Unfortunately there are female Djs who participate in these discussions the same way.

Which is why i see femmes on decks more as a support group.

So we choose to see the photo above as an example of female Dj marketing????? I see it as a example of one persons marketing.

      Re: Femme on decks

i think a lot of it comes down to their looks BECAUSE women are women, they like to dress nice when they go out. Most guys just throw on a t-shirt and jeans, whereas women are more inclined to pick out a nice blouse or something else to make themselves look good.

          Re: Femme on decks

All this talks about their looks is peripheral and has little to do with their DJing. Men talk about women's looks all the time, women talk about women's look, and here we talk about Digweed's hair.

If you show me a female DJ, my first reaction is to consider how she looks, cos I'm a guy. Hell point me at any female and my first consideration is how she looks. And it has nothing to do with finding out more about the female as a DJ or the female as a person, it's a completely superficial thing that happens in passing.

But how she looks has nothing to do with how she DJs or how psycho she is. Not one 'good looking' DJ has ever convinced me to check out a mix of theirs, I won't even bother unless someone else in the forum has heard the mix and recommends it.

Given any form of fanaticism in music be it prog or tech or trance, I don't think fans will give a good looking DJ the time of the day if the music is shit.

So yeah, given that all we have are pics to look at, of course we naturally gravitate towards checking them out.

That's all fine, but good female Djs still tend to be judged on their looks .

              Re: Femme on decks

I agree with many posts concerning female dj's using their phusical for their musical, and I am one of those who agree with that; I would never get a half-naked female dj on the decks whose career began on being naked in the first place.

But I am a female dj, and I feel like responding, especially that lately I have published rather "sansual pix".

This is for the guys: a woman is a woman, and you never fully understand how she views things, acts with her environment, or reach her goals in the way she sees it fit.

You guys have your ways in dealing with things, we women have ours!

Now personally, I believe a female dj is totally out of order to use her body for her musical purposes. There is a lack of respect for the music she is playing and the audience she is plauing for. In the overground circle where champagne rules, a so-so playboy dj may do the job. But bring her the deep underground circle, ans oh boy I promise out she wont last than 2 mixes and be thrown out of the booth ...and fast!

I had to deal with the hard core of underground audience, the nastiest I would say, coz I am an "afterhours" dj. If you notice my pix, I am alwyas fully covered in black clothing, little make-up and armed with mixes that made hundreds go out of their minds. Just for the record, I am a musician very long before being a model and a dj, so when I deal with music, I deal ONLY with music coz I repect it the way it should be.

              "Female are not taken seriously"

Well that's also wong imo, some female djs have played in front on audiences that most male djs would dream of; Let's talk numbers: How many of you male djs on this borad played for 23.000+ audience? I bet none. And yes a female djane did it! (and they are on this board)
I am sure some ofher female djs played for even higher number.
All this to say that I am tired of listening to people considering female djs as "second class" djs. Maybe most of them are like that, but watch out of those who are not coz they can kick many male bedroom djs, occasional djs, bar djs, and even some international dj/producer's butt with dropping a sweat!

              But in my case, I am also a model, and as all models, i express myself with my body;
I consider I have raech the level of dj I aimed for, for now. And I am reaching my 40s and pregnant. So in my woman my of my age, I thought of publishing discreet sensual pix while making sure they dont interfere with my mysical career" wont wont see any of my sensual pix with headphones on or next to decks.....no! I do sensual pix at this moment of time coz I feel like doing it, as a mature woman.
Some boys on yhis forum might not under this kinda move, coz they are still boys. every thought to its age. Buty I am sure some more mature men will understand and Ippreciate my move...

              And for the records:

Dude, you have a model playing music that will split your brain in 2 during the afterhours, and she is not far from you. Maybe you should look better and drop that weak macho comment of yours. Are you a dj in the first place to talk like that?
Is yes I would like to hear that coz till now you seem to be nodoby in the djing circle....so if i were you i'ld zip it on the female djs!

What the fuck are you going on about?

All I said was, it is a natural guy tendency to check out any women and talk about her looks, irrespective of her vocation.

Somewhere in this thread it was mentioned that female DJs are 'judged' differently or get different reactions because of their looks.

And my point was, this is just us talking about looks, we're not talking about their music, since most of us haven't heard the stuff these femme on decks play.

I did have the misfortune of catching a model DJ at supperclub recently and she was shit. Didn't stop me from checking her out though, but so what?

I trust not one of us on this board will actually talk up a DJ based on her looks instead of her music.

This is probably going a little off the main subject, but measuring the success of a dj based on how many people the dj has played in front of, is blatantly absurd.

I just can't imagine a "sucessfull" downtempo dj in front of 25,000

What Haziel meant was using numbers to judge the success of a DJ is not the best way to go because a downtempo/chill out DJ would play to a significantly smaller number in a much more intimate setting.

                          Jesus fucking christ.

Well Feather, I might not be the direct subject on this thread, but i am a female dj and I consider myself as part of this subject, and targeted as well.
So next time we talk about female djs, plz lets not make it in general, coz the minority might feel targeted and offended....I suggest we be more specific when talking about female djs.. Nikky Bellucci and few others are a particular case, but it doesnt mean it has to be generalized to all of us...

Lol , I know you don't play downtempo , but you do know that there are some dj's that actually play downtempo / chill out music and not spin in front of 25,000 people right? According to your post a dj is only succesfull based on the amount of people the dj spins for? so where does this leave the dj's that spin music that are not for big dancing events ?????

If you know anything about this music , EDM's natural environment is in a club not a 25,000 outdoor event , hence in a 25,000 outdoor event I doubt that the majority of that crowd is really " underground " .

and please for future references don't use my posts to promote your albums . Thank you

I have been added to this group on myspace, "femme on decks": I count 62 females djs....yea!!!

But how many of them are serious djs I wonder?
Lady, you started this thread with that post, which immediately set the tone of the thread and cast aspersion on said DJs.

Nobody ever mentioned you in this thread, everyone else was posting pictures of DJs they found on the myspace page and talking about them. Nobody actually said any of these DJs were shit except for that one comment about Belluci. Everything that was said here was about the perception of female DJs by the public.

Who the fuck was targetting you? You choose to read into what was said in this thread. Nobody singled you out, we were just talking because the issue was raised. Chloe is a female DJ and she didn't strike me as 'targetted:' she had a much more objective and down-to-earth input.

                                Chill the fuck out.

I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.
